SVO Rogaine with Tom Overbaugh--a great partner indeed! (in case he's reading... :>) ) Seriously--his prior experience with rogaines, particularly at night, was invaluable. I'm sure I would have gotten into a lot more trouble. Tom led a large fraction of the time, with me monitoring things as we went along so that I could help make sense of things when we went astray. That system seemed to work rather well--some savings in time and confusion because you don't have to make every decision by committee, but always having two heads into the game for making the harder decisions.
We were on the move the entire time period, with no breaks longer than about 5-10 minues to change socks, clean the junk out of our shoes, etc. Didn't make it back to the hash house until a half hour before the end--stopped for a burger then went out for a last-minute close control. Didn't have trouble staying awake (had one of Tom's caffeine-laced goos about 5AM), and was only understandably tired at the end. The real problem was a big blister under my left foot that started early and was in full force relatively early (12hr point)--so the second half was miserable. Also yanked the nail of my little toe out at the root--strange and painful. I had the toe taped around because of a blister and somehow wacked it on a rock hard enough to twist and/or pull on the tape to yank the nail out. Luckily, only a few hours left at that point.
Overall 4th, 2nd in Masters. I think it would have been easier than I expected if not for the blister (which I guess should have been expected...).
