Orienteering intervals 45:00 [4]

BL Training at Mt Majura South West. At one stage Heather and I thought we were going to be the only ones, but everyone arrived in a rush: Bonnie, Lachy, Jenny, Ian, Belinda and Paul. Braggs and Bowens were late but caught up with us towards the end.
Training was five intervals, with 3 or 4 controls on each. We ran through the bush and paddocks between the Mt Ainslie Nth and Mt Majura West maps. Total distance was 5km.
We don't orienteer in this area so there was none of the 'Oh, I know where that is', so you had to read the map. Plus there wasn't any tape etc. at the control points so you had to be certain.
Some of the mapping is dodgy to say the least. The best example was the contours around 1 and 2 on the first interval. They intertwine with each other which makes interpretting the map a challenge.
We did mass starts on the 1st, 3rd and 4th intervals. The 2nd was a reverse order chasing start with slowest going first, and for the longer last one we started at 30 second intervals.
The best part was running through the open forest on the final interval with the last light of day making everything glow with that orange light. As Heather said, you didn't want to read your map; you just wanted to look at the forest.
