Orienteering race 39:48 [4] 4.3 km (9:15 / km) +160m 7:48 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 5

NSW Middle at Blue Gum Hills on edge of Newcastle. Fun area and the course avoided all the thick crap/lantana which was nice. Overall a fairly so-so run. I started off hesitantly and took too long to make a decision and then still wasn't sure about my route choice to 1. Started to get a bit better over next couple of controls but ran too high leaving 3 and drifted to the right heading to 6. Biggest problem was position of 15 which I came on surprisingly early (I think the flag was about 30m too far down the gully) so missed the short leg to 16 and kept running up what I thought was the right gully but ended up at 17! Because all the numbers were similar I want sure if I had punched 16 and missed 15, or punched 15 and missed 16, so back down the hill. Arrived at the control I had punched and it was 15 so headed off more carefully to 16 but still ended up half way to 17. Stopped dead and looked at the gullies and then realised that 16 was a gully further to the right. All up wasted nearly 3 minutes here. But that's how it goes.

Bob V cleaned up in 31mins but just behind Golfer and O-ing.

Staying at the Blatchford's which is wonderful - beer, beer, shower, pizza, ice cream and fun conversations. Plus watching AFL with people who care about the outcome which is an interesting experience.

Running intervals 43:10 [3]
shoes: asics GT-2160 #2

Bumped into robw in the change rooms and he was planning on doing intervals so I joined him. Warmed up around Lake G anti_clockwise as far as the start of the peninsula. Then it was 10 x 1 minute hard with 1 minute easy in between. I kept up for the first 30 seconds on the first int then it was just the sight of robw disappearing into the distance. He kindly jogged back to meet me during each easy minute so we started the hard from the same spot. After 5 I was feeling crap - and being into the wind didn't help but started to feel better and the last two were good. An easy run around the rest of the lake to warm down then back to the ABShouse. The sunny weather was a nice change from the rain of the past few days.

Running 33:45 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Run to work in the drizzle. I wore my bike jacket but got too hot so had to open the zip. Avoided most puddles till about 100m to go so it will be wet socks for the return journey.

Running long 2:03:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Sense Mantra

Cockies Sunday run from Hackett with acejase (who had already run for 'hours' before he got there), Frogga, Hoggster, Fat Rat, Devil, ALJ and MaryMac doing her own thing. I did my warm up, then Majura taking the straight line from the hairpin bend on the TTT, then down the road, across to the pines, Hackett Hill, Ainslie via all the newly graded walking tracks, then back via Tricky Track to the cars, and finally an extra 10 minutes to meet the others finishing. I kept with everyone, using some shortcuts, until the climb up to the saddle before HH, then it was a solo effort. Felt fairly crap on the hills but the remainder was OK.

Pleasant breakfast at Sfoglia - had skinny choccy milkshake, toasted focaccia with butter, and a mug of SFW.
