Controlling at The Gib. After a lazy start to the day with a coffee at chez Acejase, then another at Food Lovers at Bungendore had us primed and ready for control placement and checking. First surprise was the dozen steers still in the rodeo ground which would have made the finish chute a bit like Pamplona. Crossed paths with Dimity, the property owner, out the back which was fortuitous as we got the key to the gate to get out easily rather than re-crossing the paddocks. Acejase struggled on a few controls to get the stand in - too much rock, so I had a pleasant 15 minutes leaning against a tree and taking in the peace of the bush. We were doing half a loop each putting out the controls and then checking each others on the second half. I nearly trod on a wombat which made a grumble but it didn't run away and just stood there, ignored me and had a good scratch. As predicted on the ACT Champs Facebook page by the course setter, I lugged the water to the control at the top of the ridge - but to Acejase's credit he did offer to help carry it. More controls, making a fence crossing, and setting up the map change, and more controls made the afternoon go fast. Squeezed in another coffee and pastry at Food Lovers on the way home.
