Orienteering 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 5

Checking about 35 controls, while acejase did something similar on the other half of the map. All was good, and the weather was perfect.
10 AM

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 5

A couple of trips to the map exchange control. Fun sitting and watching kangaroos, parrots, cows, elite orienteers. Kept Acejase up to date with the timing through the control, the comments - mostly positive, and the one dummy spit. Obviously he didn't realise that it was, as Acejase kept repeating, "the ACT Long Distance Champs and not a mid week event at Campbell Park".

Picking up controls. Managed a coffee at Food Lovers with Marymac on the way home which was most welcome - not sure what to do tomorrow.

Running race 23:41 [3] 5.0 km (4:44 / km) +12m 4:41 / km
shoes: New Balance 890 v2

Parkrun at Ginninderra. After yesterday and what was on today I decided to just have an easy run. I was about 30 seconds slower through the first km and kept it up the whole way to be about 2.5 minutes off my PB. But I did enjoy myself.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 890 v2

Only a short warm up
12 PM

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Controlling at The Gib with Acejase. At one point the heavens opened for about 15 minutes and we were soaked. I had about 2cm of water in the bottom of my backpack - apparently the water can get in just not out. Everything is ready for tomorrow - the finish chute on the rodeo ground was looking like a quagmire but at least it is a sandy mix so the water should soak in.

Another good coffee at Food Lovers at Bungendore on the way home.
2 PM

Lugging 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

carrying water to the various drinks controls with Acejase, plus some up to the start to keep Bill Jones happy - even though we said there was no water at the start. Apparently elite orienteers need a cup of water after a 1 km jog to warm up. In the end I thought Herman in the M90 class might like a drink so I relented. Not sure on the exact time of all the lugging but it felt like a while.

Orienteering 5:40:00 [2]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Controlling at The Gib. After a lazy start to the day with a coffee at chez Acejase, then another at Food Lovers at Bungendore had us primed and ready for control placement and checking. First surprise was the dozen steers still in the rodeo ground which would have made the finish chute a bit like Pamplona. Crossed paths with Dimity, the property owner, out the back which was fortuitous as we got the key to the gate to get out easily rather than re-crossing the paddocks. Acejase struggled on a few controls to get the stand in - too much rock, so I had a pleasant 15 minutes leaning against a tree and taking in the peace of the bush. We were doing half a loop each putting out the controls and then checking each others on the second half. I nearly trod on a wombat which made a grumble but it didn't run away and just stood there, ignored me and had a good scratch. As predicted on the ACT Champs Facebook page by the course setter, I lugged the water to the control at the top of the ridge - but to Acejase's credit he did offer to help carry it. More controls, making a fence crossing, and setting up the map change, and more controls made the afternoon go fast. Squeezed in another coffee and pastry at Food Lovers on the way home.
