Rylstone Common, QBIII, Sprint. Well, job done, managed to top M60 and render the rest of the State league events surplus to requirements (bar the NSW Sprint). However this was a good run after a very bad start. Good planning on the leg to 3 meant you had to really turn back on yourself leaving 2 and I didn't do that enough, trying to get past my 1 minute man, who proceeded to go AWOL just as I was about to pass. That added to the issue and suddenly I could not locate myself on the map. Took a minute to relocate.

Prossers Reef, QBIII Day 2 Long. Horrible. Lost 6 minutes after failing to identify two firetrails as I ran over them and then followed an unmapped one down the wrong ridge. Should have paid more attention to the contours. Then tried to get away from Alex and failed due to a very poor route choice down a watercourse.

Carwells Labyrinth, Clandulla, M60, 2nd. Good run. Slow early but found some real form in the last km to overhaul WD for second. Rob V way too good in this terrain and I was nearly 4 minutes slower. Three small drifts wide right on 3, 5 and 10 as well as an uncessary cliff climb/descent on 12 cost about a minute all up.

Lapstone, Darks Common. Checking control sites for Metro League. Train from Central, then to Lithgow where I caught the "train" (bus) to Bathurst.

Had a meeting cancelled so got out for a ride. Lane Cove weir flowing over.

Note on the NSW State League. NSW introduced "Double Points" for the 3 NSW Championship events this year. I don't think its a good idea. It essentially means complusory attendance at the 3 Champs. Otherwise you might get a situation where a runner who wins 15 of the 16 events but is injured or away or organises for one of the Championships could lose to someone who runs only 7 events and finishes 10% behind the winner in every one. So Winner guy gets best 7 of 16: 5 x 100 + 2 Champs x 200 = 900 points, while 90% guy gets 4 x 90 + 3 Champs x 180 = 900.

There are lots of similar scenarios, but essentially to win the State League you now have participate (not even do that well in) all 3 Champs.

Tested against the guideline that rule changes should encourage more participation - this fails because you only now have to go to 4 of the 13 non-Championships. It also heavily discriminates against anyone who organises a State Champs.
And anyone who couldn’t get to, or organised at, Armidale for the NSW Middle/Long is pretty much out of the State League already.

In my case I've won 3 State Leagues so far (with max points from the 2 Champs), so only need to attend and do well at one more out of 9 plus do the remaining State Champs Sprint - I can bypass all the rest.

State Champs have their own individual prestige and prizes. I don't think they need extra points in the League: I can't think of a good reason why they should have extra points. To limit the effect above a bonus 25 (awarding 125 pojnts for the winner) would work an awful lot better if there is actually a reason to do it.
