Keynes Gap, SA Middle Champs, M60, 8th. Another debacle. Was 3 seconds down after 7 controls and managed to lose 8:20 in the second half of the course to finish 7:30 down. Lost 3 minutes at 8 - was too confident and just headed off due south on rough compass, went into the detail without knowing where I was. Was slow to get into 9 (-20 seconds). OK till 12 where I got into the right gully, 10m north of the flag and turned north instead of south (-2 minutes). Another minute lost at 13 simply mis-reading which hill to go to and same again at 14.
Rob won without a fastest split till right near the end. Good on Ceri Pass with the fastest split on the course to 8.
This was the most enjoyable event of the carnival for me - challenging terrain and good course setting.
Sprained L ankle 100m from the start - my VJ Bolds are showing their age and the dob spkies on the outer edge are worn down, increasing the roll factor. Had noticed they were a bit unstable before starting. OK during the event but swelled up after.

Mt Crawford, M60, 4th. Meh. Moderate level course, easy navigation, but I still managed to get the two route choices wrong. That’s despite looking really hard at 5-6, but still decided to attack it through the green rather than just use the track to the left. I managed to correctly dismiss the far left route (that Ted took for a 30 second gain) but not the little bit left route which only had a small bit of green compared to what I went through. Most people (Rob, Mel, Grant, Paul) found it. Splits show this leg was decisive for my run - lost 1:37 to Mel in this leg, lost the win by 1:17. Didn’t see the left or straight options for 7.
WinSplits says that the top 10 on our course made a total of two mistakes total - Jeff at no. 1 and Grant at no. 4.

Roadworks on bike path = go onto grass = get bindy through tyre = PITA getting new tyre off = new tube = CO2 inflates and it goes straight back down again = pump no good either = taxi home.

Renmark School, M60, 1st by 1:20. Ran well, no mistakes. Obviously happy with this after the shambles that was Saturday’s Middle. Especially given I had a slightly sore R calf after that race, managed with ice and voltaren. But no problem with it at all. Caught Mel 1 minute at 9, and Alex at 13, that helped.
Note: 5th win from 12 starts in this race (3 2nds and 4 3rds - 5 started sick or injured).
