Orienteering race (Easter 3 days) 43:59 [4] *** 6.2 km (7:06 / km)
ahr:170 max:189 spiked:10/12c shoes: Mudclaw 333

First day of Easter. A mass start race for us sledgers. Reminded me of the Boomer at Umuna where tRicky and I tried to follow Craig. Picking who to follow was again easy this time: Juffy. He took the lead early on and I, Andre and Michael Madden followed, while Tyson weaved in and out of sight going his own way. I managed to keep contact with the map fairly well, but didn't have time for much detail reading. On the way to #5 we went a bit too far right, I thought, but I definitely wasn't confident enough to stray from the pack. Strangely enough, Tyson, Andre and Michael went even further right than Juffy. I followed Juffy when he corrected, and it was just the two of us from there. It was hard work following and my heartrate was in the 170s from here all the way. Had to keep reminding myself to be disciplined and not try anything foolish on my own.

To #11, the second last control, we went to the wrong boulders. I should have gone my own way here, but I was already psyching myself up for the sprint. Bashing through a little bit of bush I was two seconds behind Juffy coming into #11. Couldn't close any of it on the short downhill leg to #12, so coming into the finish chute I was still 2 seconds behind, and it took a lot of effort to overtake. GPS shows my speed was 2:15/km here. Just managed to pass, but didn't punch smoothly, and the system had us both finish at the same time. That was cool, as Juffy really deserved the win. I didn't feel too badly about following, because I knew there were still two days to come for Juffy to shine.
