Day 2. Much better run than yesterday!

I felt a lot more focused & under control. I concentrated on having a plan and checking off features (and I even talked to myself from 4-5 & told myself which features I was passing!).

I also looked for handrails to simplify legs, which I think helped a lot. I sometimes tend to start running straight on the line without considering longer but safer routes, so it was good to take some trails today and get in some stretches of fast running.

I saw Nick (?) from West Point about halfway through the run, and then I kept seeing him throughout it (we ended up sprinting the finish at the same time!). It was weird because we'd often leave the control in slightly different ways, so I wouldn't see him for the middle of the leg...and then I'd see him again in the control circle! It was actually great motivation to run faster & it added some pressure, which was nice.

I did have a few bobbled controls, but everything was fairly minor & correctable.

There was a really beautiful area between 3 and 4, where the course crossed a stream. The ground was covered in leaves and there was a wide flat open space around the place where two branches of the stream met.

Running red this weekend was really fun. It was great to be able to compare routes with more friends than usual since the green course is often split between men and women.

...and now I miss orienteering again ;-)
