Orienteering 15:41 [3] 2.5 km (6:16 / km)
shoes: orienteering shoes

Okay, finally getting caught up!

Sprint at Team Trials. Distance is thereabout.

Almost missed the start, but there was a beautiful run over to it.

Mostly clean run; I bobbled control 5 and lost ~20 seconds (?), but it was otherwise pretty solid.

Part of the model event, in the pouring rain! Went pretty slowly, looking at the vegetation, and just got a few controls.

Note
(rest day)

No training (cramming for finals) :-/. It is really nice outside, though. I'd like to run.

Run 42:56 [3] 5.12 mi (8:23 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Trance

I got up early enough to run before it gets really hot.

Ran through Battle Park to Bolin Creek and along the bikepath there. The roses are all blooming in the garden near the start of the bikepath.

Note

I'll probably have to take tomorrow off of training because of final exams on Thursday...and Thursday off for taking finals and then traveling. But I'm excited for the weekend!

Run 22:10 [3] 2.54 mi (8:44 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Trance

Went for a short run through the trails and around the eastern dorms before dinner.

Run 10:00 [3] 1.2 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Trance

Time and distance are made up. I was running late to the animal shelter, so I ran about half of it.

The cat I've been most hoping would be adopted got adopted sometime last week! It would scratch everything, knock its water off of the cage door, and try to swipe at other cats in adjoining cages through the bars...but if you let it run around in a bigger room, it completely changed.

Anyway, this made me really happy :-).

Orienteering 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Trance

Local BOK meet at Umstead.

My run had its ups and downs.

The main time loss is from control 2...I saw a big black snake and lost focus.

I was running in somewhat scrabbly forest with downed logs, and I must have startled the snake, which I hadn't noticed. I don't know very much about the snakes in this area, and there are only harmless garter snakes at home (I used to catch them!).

So...unfortunately I decided it would be a good idea to walk to control 2 while staring at the leaves [in case there were more snakes ;-)].

And I also decided not to follow after the snake, which had disappeared in my intended direction.

So I plodded off in a somewhat similar direction, missed the control, had to relocate, and was generally slow and unfocused.

I also missed the fourth control at first. I was close to it, but it was in a pit and I didn't see it.

Wildlife:

1 black snake
2 deer
5 tics

2009 tic total: 5
