Mt Biking long 2:03:00 [3] +800m
ahr:153 max:184 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Long ride in vegas. Riding better but still feeling like crap on hills, go ok for a few mins then just completely bottom out with nothing in my legs or chest. Was wet as well after big downpour last night. Split Endz is awesome, cant see how you can ever go to Rotorua without doing that track.

Mt Biking 1:15:00 [3] +380m
ahr:148 max:188 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Ride with Brent and Stu later in day, feeling really crap for first half of ride, couldnt get going, had nothing in my legs and HR was staying real low as well as we did the a few tracks around bottom including diamond back, then busted a nut going up the Gona Gotta hill and we came down Corridor and North Face, only had 1 slight trip into the bushs.

Feeling bit better by end but something just dont seem right

Running 45:00 [3] 6.4 km (7:02 / km) +165m 6:14 / km
ahr:147 max:174 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Run with Neil from the outdoor centre to lake and back during the Big O. Feeling bit stiff in the running legs.

Mt Biking 1:24:00 [3] +440m
ahr:152 max:184 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Ride in Vegas with Brent and Stu, feeling quite stuffed at times, dont know why, went up to gona gotta, A trail, tickler, be rude, and then we broke Stu along the road to diamond back, then Stu decided he didn't like being broken so tried racing off, that lasted 4 corners before he was in the bushes.

Feeling way to weak and gimpy for my liking

Orienteering race (Relay) 42:05 [5] *** 4.7 km (8:57 / km) +265m 6:59 / km
ahr:179 max:190 spiked:20/21c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 340

Nationals Relay, surprising not hungover, thanks Wellington for organising the best ever Nationals party.

Was right up there going through spectator for first time (thanks to shorter split) then managed to make an absolute meal of 8, still think map is wrong somewhere but I stuffed it as well. After that pretty much lost any motivation to try and then going up the massive hill to 11 my left achilles/calf tightened big time so I eased off a bit. Thought the course and format was really good, map was average and talked up way too much for what it was, but I think some course setters need to question why they have some legs, a massive climb to a nothing control site just to come straight back down again is pointless and is not needed in an orienteering course.

Orienteering race (Long) 50:40 [5] *** 5.2 km (9:45 / km) +290m 7:37 / km
ahr:175 max:190 spiked:16/18c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 340

Nationals Middle, ran 21AS, since I haven't done the training and thought I might be slightly hungover - which I was and only had 4 hours sleep as well. Map seemed bloody dodgy the entire way, then having a control on a non-existant feature in the middle of some non-mapped green was a bit of ass. Riki caught me at mistake and caught Simon just after, when I couldn't run away from him and was watching Riki disappear up the hill it pretty much summed up my condition.

Couldn't really care about todays result and it showed.

Orienteering race (Middle) 38:21 [5] *** 4.0 km (9:35 / km) +300m 6:58 / km
ahr:184 max:195 spiked:14/16c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 340

Nationals Middle. Was better map/course than I expected but still not what I would say was nationals standard. Felt really weak on the hills, which was a bit of surprise as I haven't been feeling too bad on them recently, then legs felt like lead once it flattened out, and made a dumb mistake on 14, wasn't paying enough attention and got confused by the change in mapping of trees, but no change in the actual trees and the fence. Why were the fences on the map, fucken hell.

Disappointed all up, but at least my cousins wedding was good.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 17:16 [5] ** 3.2 km (5:24 / km) +19m 5:14 / km
ahr:195 max:201 spiked:22/23c shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Nationals Sprint, crap map and pretty simple as well and surprised by how many people made mistakes, in saying that the major mistakes were made by the poor map/course. How can a hill feature that is a form line, on a 1m contour interval in the middle of 4 foot high grass be a fair control site? Also not convinced about the fairness of the ponds be crossable as it would have been pot-luck on run-ability if there had been some rain (in the past 4 months). Was there seriously not a better area anywhere else? (yes next door)

About where I expected to be on results, too slow and sluggish to do any better without any technical ability needed and felt like I was still restricted a bit by last weeks flu/cold as well.

Rd Cycling warm up/down (recovery) 39:00 [2] 18.1 km (27.8 kph) +125m
ahr:151 max:178 shoes: Specilized Allez 06

Easy ride later in day to get some blood into the legs which have pulled up a bit sore after gym and some massive calf raising sessions, also testing out the new cadence sensor, average 93 max 135

Down to village, old Albany highway, Rosedale Rd and back via round Bush Rd

Orienteering 1:01:00 [3] **** +85m
ahr:159 max:200 shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Training on White Lightning with Neil. Had turns doing 2 controls each on a course that was about 6.5km long with 40 controls, was awesome. Came unstuck a little bit in middle in some strange mapping, tried cranking it up faster and faster near the end (did you notice Neil, that was deliberate not a product of what we were talking about)

Then stood around at Tupare while the fire-department put out Neils fire that he didn't put out properly yesterday.

Gym 43:00 [2]
ahr:138 max:188 shoes: Asics Rocket

Gym session, 10 mins on bike to warm up then some light core before getting in the physio bit. Doing walking lunges with 15kg in each hand, hurts.

Saturday Mar 15, 2008 #

Rd Cycling long 1:46:00 [3] 49.0 km (27.7 kph) +120m
ahr:159 max:184 shoes: Specilized Allez 06

Ride round Morrinsville, same loop as xmas time but in reverse, and harder, ment longer going slightly uphill and into a stiff head wind. Felt pretty stuffed by the end.

Friday Mar 14, 2008 #

Rd Cycling (Recovery) 37:00 [2] 16.4 km (26.6 kph) +70m
ahr:147 max:168 shoes: Specilized Allez 06

Easy ride round Morrinsville, just trying to get a bit of blood flow through some sore muscles. Pretty nice to be able to ride on some flat roads

Thursday Mar 13, 2008 #

Gym 27:00 [2]
ahr:120 max:171 shoes: Asics Rocket

Gym session with physio to get some exercises to make me strong. Did 10 mins on bike to warm up then some heavy leg exercises to make them like jelly before some stability exercises. Highly likely that I'll be sore tomorrow

Orienteering 54:00 [3] **** +90m
ahr:153 max:202 shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Training on Pot Luck, due to filming of Underworld 3, we had to run in from top end and stealth some controls. Feeling ok, was oing ok, even did some fast legs until I got a stick in my eye, was pretty worried about it and now I have a scratch on my eyeball and its bloody sore.

Wednesday Mar 12, 2008 #

Rd Cycling 1:12:00 [3] 28.4 km (23.7 kph) +370m
ahr:151 max:196 shoes: Specilized Allez 06

Bike ride with Phil (mate from uni) he use to do road biking at school but is far from any shape. Felt pretty strong much to my surprise, but was going pretty easy and had to sit up and wait a few times. Also had a stop at top of hill has Phil needed a sit down. Had some young kid fly past near the bottom of a hill, and had about 100m on us going up the next hill, and I decided to see if I could catch him, did so and he kicked it in and we went hardcore to the top, pretty glad I had to wait for Phil but I got the little bugger.

Feeling heaps better as well.

Orienteering 50:00 [4] ***** 3.6 km (13:53 / km) +145m 11:34 / km
ahr:151 max:186 shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Awesome training session on Temu Rd. Bloody wicked. Did legs in turn with Neil just cruising and enjoying it. Feeling like I'm getting my oing back as well and some mojo which has been seriously lacking.

Feeling about a million times better than the weekend but still no where near 100%, legs were ok, just slight pain in lower right which had been there all day after acupuncture again this morning.

Orienteering race (Long) 26:35 [4] ***** 2.2 km (12:05 / km) +85m 10:08 / km
ahr:141 max:201 (sick) shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Otago Long Champs. Pretty much everything was feeling crap, started and couldn't even manage to get into a jog. Did first 3 controls and then had a sit down to recover. Looked at the course and thought what the hell was the point of setting a course in Naseby, the most technical map we have in NZ and then going and having 2/3's of the course on the crappy, boring, detail-less part of the map, what a bloody waste!

Did some relocating exercises while making my own way through the detail and back to finish.

Event: Otago Champs

Orienteering race (Middle) 47:40 [5] ***** 4.5 km (10:36 / km) +355m 7:36 / km
ahr:194 max:203 spiked:18/21c (sick) shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Otago Champs on Naseby. Still sick as, had no energy to push with and look at my HR, was oing real good (possibly cause I was going slow) until I thought I should start concentration as to not stuff up the last one in the detail, as it turns out I stuffed up the last one in the detail 4 1/2 mins and was in the un-mapped green that was fill of detail, then started to feel shins a bit on long run in on road. Feeling pretty average afterwards.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 24:20 [4] **** 1.7 km (14:19 / km) +80m 11:35 / km
ahr:142 max:208 (sick) shoes: Inov8 RocLite 305

Otago Sprint, felt really bad about 5 mins out from starting, light headed and out to it, started and got to the 'not the start triangle' before deciding I was too wasted (and my HR was 208 after 20 seconds). Walked/jogged first 4 controls then walked round to 18 via 12 and 13 and stood in the water-race for a while for my legs.

Would have been an awesome 'short middle' if I could have done it properly

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] ***
(sick) shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Walking around Neils training on Celebre, was quite a good exercise.

Still feeling like crap but way better than last 2 days.

Had acupuncture and needling done this afternoon, basically he stuck needles in on the trigger points then moved and jabbed them about to get the trigger points going, were quite sore after, every time I started walking it took a few steps to get a normal stride going.

Note
(sick)

Feeling like crap, and to make things even better Claire is worse than I am. Also had needles stuck all through my legs this morning. I'm not one into mumbo jumbo witch doctor stuff but this acupuncture thing might actually be doing something as calfs have loosened up heaps.

Note
(sick)

After a week that included
-6 days drinking (latest start being 1pm)
-4 concerts (1 being the private invitation only Autozamm album release party)
-1 trolley derby (winning best crash)
-5 days perving at hot first years
-1 physio session
-1 acupuncture session
-0 minutes training

I am now sick with some shit flu thing. This could quite possibility be the most anti-training week I have ever had
