Running hills 26:00 [3] +210m
ahr:162 max:187 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Last run of the year that wasn't running wise. Ran up the Waikerry track to meet Neil and Stu with a beer, they were faster than expected so I only got halfway up. Legs were ok a little bit tight from going up right away, but stretched a couple of times and they didn't seem too bad.

Mt Biking 2:00:00 [3] +585m
ahr:148 max:187 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt bike in vegas with Neil and Karyn, for them to do some moa training, went down bunny jugs, nice track, then through Chinese menu when Neil broke his chain, twice so he limped home and we carried on, went down Dragons Tail = AWESOME new 2nd favourite track, then round the normal moa course apart from the fenceline.

Feeling pretty good, even tho a bit crusie.

Mt Biking 1:31:00 [3] +345m
ahr:130 max:170 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt biking with Claire at Vegas, dont know what was wrong was feeling really flat and my HR was really low and didn't have enough energy in the legs to get it up, Claire was feeling the same, maybe something from dinner yesterday?? but I covered the 3 main food groups, ham, chicken and beef, plus added venison for good luck.

End up just doing Tahi, Creek, Mad if you Dont, up road to G Rock, Roller-coaster and home. Hadn't done G rock before, quite a nice track but if you going to the effort to get there you might as well carry on to Split Endz.

Right calf also cramped all the way down, never done that before and was rather a pain. Also got rained on at the bottom and all the way back, so all in all not a very good or enjoyable ride, felt like being dumped by a long distance relationship after seeing her for the first time in ages, might need to bring chocolates next time.

Running 37:00 [3] 6.2 km (5:58 / km) +35m 5:48 / km
ahr:162 max:184 shoes: Nike Air Zoom Triax+11

Xmas lunchtime jaunt round the big M'ville before the big xmas feed, was feeling surprisingly good, nothing really hurt at all which hasn't happened for a while running on a harder surface. Explored the new subdivision that has sprouted in the last 2 years and its bloody big.

Did 200m worth of striding near the end, trying to focus on long strides and form.

Wednesday Dec 24, 2008 #

Note

This is what happens when you are busy and dont have a plan. Also body still feeling a bit thrashed after camp and the weekends play times, quads especially.

Monday Dec 22, 2008 #

Note

Had physio early, should have done some training yesterday, calfs were a mess but nothing really sore which is a bonus.

Saturday Dec 20, 2008 #

Note

Pretty hung, plus need some sleep didn't really get much, bloody camp has me tuned to before 7am starts at the moment.

Spent a couple of hours playing paintball for Neils 31st, (included getting hit twice in the nuts), then a hour or so playing hockey at Tupare with same group. Got more bruises from the hockey than the paintball.

Note
(rest day)

Last day of camp, didn't get a chance to run too busy organising camp champs, bloody felled areas, google maps needs to be more updated so I can see the felled areas when I'm setting courses from Auckland, wasn't too bad in the end.

Legs have been feeling really good all week, apart from today they started to stiffen up through the calves, might have been because I didn't do anything??

Really stoaked with how camp went, was an awesome week

Finished off the day with the drive back and straight into the DMD xmas party

Orienteering (Coaching) 32:00 [3] **** +50m
ahr:145 max:183 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Simple-fi-cation exercise on Harakeke, ran in from the finish after shifting vans, and did a bit of coaching near the end, followed a few including Liam who nailed it and was really on to it, then Neil tried to confuse him and was proven wrong.

Orienteering (Coaching) 21:00 [4] **** +25m
ahr:154 max:188 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Took the 2nd group out on relocation, tried to really confuse them, and drop them in areas hard to relocate, trying to get them to realise they need to move in a direction where they can relocate from. This was the running hard part

Orienteering (Coaching) 18:00 [2] ****
ahr:109 max:162 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Relocating part of exercise

Orienteering (Searching) 20:00 [3] **** +35m
ahr:151 max:174 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Running around parts of the simplification exercise looking for a lost Fergus, I didn't find him but enjoyed running around on the map, again a bloody awesome area, pity they are also felling this behind us.

Orienteering (Coaching) 55:00 [3] **** +125m
ahr:133 max:172 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

On the forest part of southern Wiritoa, including running through the farm to and from camp. Was a hard exercise for most, with attackpoints and stepping stones, spent a lot of time at number 1 catching a few people and sorting a few tears (good one Neil), then ran around the extended bit which most people didn't do to check for lost people before heading back.

Orienteering (Coaching) 36:00 [3] **** +42m
ahr:145 max:174 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Marangi, oh my god talk about flipping sweet grass layered, clean pine forest. To from start of compass exercise and then running around the aiming off exercise, had a 30 min nap waiting at one control

"If this map could make caramel sauce I would propose"

Orienteering intervals 21:00 [4] *** +45m
ahr:157 max:193 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Did a few legs of the tennis match by myself after starting most people on a few of the points, also includes running behind Selena and Erin in their sprint off, went straight through a fallen tree and bruised hip.

Monday Dec 15, 2008 #

Orienteering (Coaching) 45:00 [2] **** +55m
ahr:135 max:184 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

First day of Junior camp on Bombing Range, bloody awesome at the moment. Took the guru group with Todd on an explore of some contours, then they followed us as we verbalised how we were doing a few legs.

Orienteering (Coaching) 45:00 [3] **** +55m
ahr:140 max:181 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Second exercise, line with blacked out parts, was impressed with the level and willingness to give it a go. Ran round a bit checking on people, following a couple including Laura and Erin. Again bloody awesome map pity its being felled behind us

Orienteering 6:00 [3] +10m
ahr:156 max:178 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Running start/finish group out to their control for the tag relay, pulled the old line up behind your maps in the wrong direction trick, was pretty funny.

Mt Biking 1:54:00 [3] +575m
ahr:138 max:180 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Ride out at Whitford with Neil, Karyn, Fi and Neal. Was hard work in places going up gravel roads, with a lot of stop starting and stuffing around (stopped watch on bigger ones) but some gnarly tracks, haven't done anything like that in a while, had a couple of good offs as well, they were in the most pathetic places, which means I managed to ride most stuff quite well which I'm pretty pleased about.

Friday Dec 12, 2008 #

Mt Biking 1:24:00 [3] +495m
ahr:158 max:191 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt bike with Neil out the back, seemed to be the ride of attempts of un-doable climbs, came ever so close to being only the 2nd person ever to ride up Bruces track, did all the hard part then got excited and lost balance and end up sideways, about 3 strokes from the top.

Felt rather buggered by the end, think it was all the climbing attempts.

Mt Biking 1:21:00 [3] +485m
ahr:156 max:186 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt bike with Michal and Marquita at Gardens, did the Greg tourist loop, need to work on the coming home part of it as Marquita had to lead I didn't know where I was going, still dont, then did a couple of laps of the anzac track, spur and gully track, awesome was feeling pretty good and tried pushing hard on the downhills, was loving it.

Running 52:00 [3] 7.0 km (7:26 / km) +235m 6:22 / km
ahr:152 max:172 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Run at Gardens, in the rain, without Neil again!!!!!

Didn't feel as good as Friday but not too bad, achilles a bit stiff but nothing major. Did a similar loop to Fri, with an add-on in the maze and loop round possum trap spur.

Mt Biking 1:14:00 [3] +405m
ahr:156 max:194 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Bike park with Neil, Rob and Marquita, jesus Rob is scary at the moment. Put in some efforts at stages but for most of it felt a bit drained after the weekend. Really good fun.

Saturday Dec 6, 2008 #

Note

achilles were sore this morning, so flagged the planned long run and was keen for a ride in the afternoon, until my guts had other ideas, should have done something in the morning fuck it all.

Friday Dec 5, 2008 #

Running 40:00 [3] 5.7 km (7:01 / km) +160m 6:09 / km
ahr:148 max:169 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Run at Gardens, but not with Neil as he had to go something about being under the thumb....

Just easy as to tick the legs over, felt really good, was at the baby gate in under 9 mins, after feeling easier than the warm up for the TT. Went up gully track, round to clay clearing, through middle, down Phils track (Neil it needs a spray), then around swamp, eucalypt track and berms.

Jumped in the pool for my 3rd swim of the day, and each time the pool got a degree hotter, 26 by end bloody awesome.

Mt Biking 1:26:00 [3] +460m
ahr:159 max:188 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt bike with Neil, went down once and up 3 times, work that out..?

Was bloody hot, managed to ride up alright, we even broke a tracks uphill cherry, well Neil was in front so technically he probably broke it first but it can be put down as one of those moments where if we had made eye contact we would have had to high five.

Didn't feel to flash for most of the ride, definitely not like last week, but was feeling alright near the end.

Wednesday Dec 3, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Had physio today, massage on calfs, they needed it, also some pressure point release stuff.

Tuesday Dec 2, 2008 #

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] +68m
ahr:148 max:167 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Warm up to the baby gate with Neil for time-trial

Running tempo (Time Trial) 19:18 [4] +120m
ahr:181 max:196 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Neils time trial, took him 20something last time so not too disappointed with this time, altho he did 17:20odd this time. Funny feeling in calf that I had at the oing was there again on the straights. Bloody long climb in the middle.

Running warm up/down 10:42 [2] +2m
ahr:139 max:195 shoes: Adidas SuperNova Trail

Cool down, down the spur after time trial.

Achilles feeling a bit tight now (11pm)

Mt Biking 40:00 [3] +215m
ahr:142 max:180 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt biking with Neil, was doing some short loops up the top, then Neil managed to brake his bike, which required some stitching up with some vines so he could free-wheel home.
