When for a road ride for the first time in ages, felt a bit sluggish to start with, but way better by the end. Did a loop down to village, back up East Coast Bays Rd, alone the ridge then around Sunnyside Rd, Coatesville, Glenmore Rd, up and down the ridge and back home.

Running 40:00 [3] +190m
ahr:150 max:182 shoes: Nike Air Zoom Triax+11

Morning run with Brent in the Redwoods, he said lasst night he was going for a run at 6am and was going to wake me, when his alarm when off on his watch that he had left in our room, at 6:30 I called his bluff and got him up for a run.
Took a few mins to get warmed up but felt ok once going, went up the hill and was going good up that until near the top where legs started to die a bit.

Mt biking in vegas with Brent and Claire till start of A trail (then we raced off and she did something different), did that and then through to drinking clearing, then bunny jugs, up hill rd the frontal lobotomy, down huckleberry hound, the corners - what an awesome track 15 mins of flowly downhill with corners everywhere. then along road, up end of sweet n sour, and down Dragons Tail, back via Lions, Turkish Delight and Exit trails. Brent almost crashed his brand new anthem on Turkish but claims he didn't since he was still holding his handle bars, the back end must be too light as it took off side ways through the air.

Feeling flat in a couple of patches but generally quite good, thought I had died completely going up Lion when I thought I was in granny and started to hurt real bad, got to the top and found out I hadn't changed the front ring. Pretty tired in the legs now.

Mt bike with Claire doing Tree Trunk Gorge Track, Claire wasn't going very fast today and the initial plan was to go to the Pillars of Hercules bridge and then turn around, but changed the plan midway through to do the entire loop with me racing off to bring the van back up to meet her. This was till just after the Pillars bridge, nice track up till here....

Then I left Claire to get back faster and bring the van back up to meet her has she was feeling stuffed, I pushed quite hard up the 4-wheeler motor bike track that gradually rose back to SH1, this seemed to take forever (only 16 mins) and was bloody hard work, then along SH1 before racing back down the road to the van. Was bloody hot and some drivers are complete fuckwits, did not enjoy the 6 and a half mins on SH1.

Some nice parts to this whole loop, not as good as what Neil had talked it up tho.

Mt Biking 2:37:00 [3] 22.5 km (8.6 kph) +835m
ahr:136 max:193 shoes: Specilized BG MtBike Shoes

Mt biking the Queen Charlotte Track, got dropped off water taxi at Torea Bay and biked the last third of the track with Claire. The first bit was the hardest with a steep climb, which I was told by the water taxi driver, "was unrideable and everyone has to push up that hill" so I was determined to ride it, almost did it after getting through what I think is the hardest/steepest section I have ever managed to ride about 1/3 of the way up, only to slip on a loose rock 10m from the very top on a relatively easy bit, Claire tho did a bit of walking but rode quite a bit as well. Was also getting bloody hot, and this was only about 10:30.

From there it was down through about a dozen switch backs that were quite technical and went, release - break - corner - release, bloody hard work and Claire rode them bloody well, better than me in most places (esp since my front breaks have had it). then over another hill and down to Te Mahia saddle. From here it was a gentle rise over about 7 km to the last high point where we stopped for about 20 mins to have a break and a bite to eat.

Then was the most awesome part of the track, basically all gradual downhill through beech forest on an awesome single track for 6 km to Anakiwa, was loving it.

Finished off with a bike to and from Tirimoana on the road to look for a shop, was none, so had to spend 2 hours waiting for the caravan at the track end to open, before waiting another 2 hours for the water taxi back.

Awesome ride, would like to do the whole thing over a couple of days when the entire track is open to bikers.
