Orienteering race (Multiday) 1:12:47 [5] *** 11.83 km (6:09 / km) +78m 5:57 / km
ahr:182 max:192 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 340 2nd

10:59 a.m.. Woodhill. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13621879
Course: 10.5 km 260 m http://www.gregjflynn.byethost17.com/maps/show_map...

3 weeks off running isn't the best prep for a race involving fast running. Felt slow and heavy, no spark at all, and the soft sand and shit to run over was energy sapping, Brent ran away from me, after I had found him standing still in between 2 controls (17-18), then somehow I managed to finish before him. Was pretty clean, lacked a little bit of flow as in a little start stop in places to read the map, but only made 1 real mistake, after I took a good fall and misplaced myself when I got up, also made 2 (2&12) not so good route choice executions and 1 (14) hesitation when I expected it to be hard but could see from a long way off but stopped to convince myself it was it. Used lots of safe features and felt the course was made a lot easier by where the controls were place either on a linear feature or on the edge of detail. Would have been way faster if you could run with someone just about the entire way, or your name was Tom and you didn't make massive mistakes.

Shins were ok during race, didn't feel them at all, but body especially calfs are a wreak.

Brent 0: Greg (I've lost count)

What a course, bloody hell talk about variety, native, clean and open, scrappy shit and some awesome low vis. Took a while to get use to the 1:7500 scale, got the first one ok after overrunning out of the start, and then nailed the 2nd in the native, this is where a major problem started, I then had no respect for the native and just took off towards the 3rd, wasn't really doing much oing, just looking for a couple of features, still wasn't into the scale and got on to apparently a similar looking system, on the edge of the maori zone that is not mapped, ended up way to far left and high, and had to relocate off the track twice to figure out where I was, blew about 6 mins. From there was a bit nervous on 5 (had a similar control before that I blew) then sort of just went through the motions on the bottom block, wasn't feeling great, wasn't oing great, but not making any real mistakes, apart from 14 which should have been easy, but just made a meal of running in a straight line for 80m. Then came the low vis, right on the edge I stopped and told myself this is the real stuff and I needed to nail it, so I did, had the total control feeling that I haven't had for years and was loving it, I wasn't super fast, but I knew exactly where I was, where I was going, what I would see and did and nailed every control, going from 7th to 2nd as the other pretenders blew it. Wish I had given the native that much respect. Was absolutely stuffed at the finish, lost a bit of time on the massive run in and body feels like it has been through the ringa. Finished thinking I would have been smashed (well I was by Toms time) and a long way down the results, seems there were a lot of muppets around in the low vis.

Wasn't too pleased with my shins, I could feel then the entire run, hoping it was just a first time in a while sort of shock, see how they hold up tomorrow before I run

Mt Biking 1:27:01 [3] 18.82 km (13.0 kph) +1000m
ahr:157 max:186 shoes: Giant Anthem X1 - 2009

3:56 p.m.. Woodhill. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13447268

Ride at Bike Park after work. Knocked off another couple of tracks on the "ride all tracks in the Bike Park" (since June) goal, doing: back road, bike parks trail, cutting trail, no brakes needed and end trail. Also did the improved jafa kids, and finished with the awesome structures on happy ending, awesome and feeling pretty good, tried to spin on the ups to save legs a bit.

Note

Left hip/hip flexor really sore and strange, went for a walk on the farm instead of training, didn't seem to help...

Mt Biking 1:20:00 [3] 16.32 km (12.2 kph) +343m
ahr:143 max:188 shoes: Giant Anthem X1 - 2009

4:47 p.m.. Riverhead. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13330208

Ride from home after work, first bit with Claire down to the centipede track, then she came home and I almost did the reverse of Sat, except went further up and down a track I've been on before with Neil, it was one where we crash simultaneously. Feeling pretty good, legs nowhere near as heavy as Sunday. Nice weather too, but started getting cold once the sun dipped below the ridge line, cant wait for day light savings, less that 2 weeks!!
