Course: Long 30 km http://www.gregjflynn.byethost17.com/maps/show_map...

Woke up and still had the massive headache, took some paracetamol and it was gone by the time I started which was good. Spent some time riding up and down before the start trying to warm up and stay warm as the wind was a bit chilly. Got the map and swore at leg 1. Almost went right round the road but couldn't tell if that route went up then down at all so stuck with what I knew up Hill Rd, was really struggling up the steep bits but felt ok after getting to 1. Went down Split Endz on 2, since I couldn't see a difference in the route choice and that meant I got to ride it, turns out it was faster as well, started feeling ok down there. Got 3 good, and hammered it down the road to 4, bit slow up the small rise on the way though, had a leppin at 4. 5 was easy but was a bit cautious before hand as it seemed to take a long time. 6 I went down Be Rude Not Too, too early and also didn't see the route down the Wash. Got confused going to 7 when I thought I had gone in the return track due to seeing some riders fly past the new bit bypassing the clearing and not seeing it on the map, so went in then out to the clearing again, then back in. Was cautious trying to find 8, and tried pushing up Yellow Brick Road as I was starting to get tired. Really started to slow going to 10, then hit the wall leaving 10 up the sharp climb and was on struggle street all the way up Pondy to the control. Just rolled down to the next junction and had planned on going right, but getting there and looking uphill I couldn't face it and carried on down Pondy, turns out it was faster anyway (and more fun) Got me back a bit of energy doing that and took off left (in 2 minds) to 12, struggled again on the very small rise and even had to get off and run for about 20m as my legs didn't want to bike up it. Picked the straight route to the finish, but fell down the bank onto the road and my bike seat got stuck on a root at the top, took a few sec to get it loose and get going. Finished in a mess, right after both knees started hurting on insides and outsides as well. But I did felt much better today until things started packing it in. Finished 6th again, and not too bad considering the time lost on first leg and over last couple given the crap 2 weeks I've just had.

MtbO is the worst of both worlds, but not to bad when you get to ride, Split Endz, Be Rude Not Too, Yellow Brick Road and Pondy in a race ;)

MtbO Nationals, Middle. Feeling like shit, and the minute at the start was not a minute, so was a bit rushed to get map in and go, had to refold at number 1 because of that. Didn't pick the best way to 5 and Jamie caught me there (after dropping his bike and running to the control the cheating prick), Then he caught me again leaving 6, then again going into 7, then I saw him going to 8 as I was leaving, then again as I was leaving 9 he was going into it. Then since I had taken the wrong way to 5 I went the other way back to 11, which was probably the wrong choice, and lost concentration when a stream and a track the PD boys were making were not on the map and I thought I had overshot, spent a min or 2 going round in circles looking for a control. Got the last couple alright, then sat down and waited a ages for Jamie to finish. Felt really tired and only had a limited top pushing threshold. Finished 6th.

MtbO Nationals, Sprint. Still feeling like shit with a massive headache that didn't go away during race. Was much more prepared for the start this time and got map in quickly and planed the first 7 legs. Almost blew a foofoo value going to number 1, and also crashed trying to stop and punch it as well (couldn't see front wheel and must have hit something). Got most of them quite smooth (with a couple of small checks) and also fastest split on 7 going straight through exit trail when most went round. Did a lot of checking going to 8, stopped for about 15 sec in the middle of the tracks to make sure, unlike all the other cheating mother fuckers just riding in what ever direction they wanted to. Went through the middle to 11, when most went round, saying that way was faster but I'm not convinced as I was starting to slow up, and slowed even more going to 12. Finished ok to get 3rd, but surprised by that as I didn't feel fast and really started to slow over the last part. Felt much better than in the middle but still effected by sickness, but the headache didn't seem to effect me much during the race tho.

Ride back to Brents with Claire, took her down exit to show my fastest split route choice, yeah. Still had a massive headache, for the rest of the day that a few beers and steak didn't fix

Note
(sick)

Still feeling to shit, thought I'd test how things were feeling by mowing the lawn, felt absolutely stuffed after and massive headache and trouble breathing so gave up on going for a ride. Fucken sickness, someone needs to be shot for this, and I'm looking squarely at you Tane!
