Course: Sprint 2.1 km http://www.gregjflynn.byethost17.com/maps/show_map...

Body feeling really worse for wear, struggle to walk up and down the spectator bank and do any form of warm up. Struggled to 1, then got a bit confused by handrails blocking my route to 2. Was oing ok again, but Todd caught me at 9, and was gone by 15. Was trying to plan ahead but couldn't see number 17 out of the pivot, keep reading it as 11, got to the P and stopped still trying to see where I had to go, Bryn was yelling at me to go, if only he had taken time to check the map he might have got the right pivot, along with Jamie.... most pretty good after that, apart from going to 26, read the grey north line as canopy and thought I could go that way, turns out you cant. Put in a sprint finish and got another.

Last race, and I was really struggling, quads were the worst but achilles starting to tighten as well. Got into the map pretty well again, but feeling like I was going a bit slower. Almost missed 18, and struggled into 19, went for the sprint leg only to fuck it at the end and miss spot to go in, as I thought there would be a nice bashed track by that stage but wasn't, so went for the finish and got that again, yeah

Little stiff in the morning, but my major concern, achilles was good. Didn't see the round option on first control, and took a big fall on the slippery concrete turning into it, took a few sec to shake it off, and was a bit confused going to 2. Missed the track initially into 4, overshot going down into 7, and again on the track going to 8, then back into some detailed stuff, and again my oing and flow was pretty good. Missed a bit on 14 with the bush right in front of it, definitely think right was the fastest option for 16 (sprint leg) and nailed the final section. Again just no speed

Race number 3, steeper one. Started very poorly, and was a lot lower than I thought, meaning I went right under it and had to come back around, then stopped on way to 2 to retie shoe lace which I hadn't double knotted-idiot. Little off and hesitant (not wanting to go too low again) Jason caught me a min here already, he was gone by 6. Bashed my way into 7 and then on way to 8 never noticed the big 'S' in the track and stopped on the bridge right by 8 confused as to where I was. Because of this was a little fresher for the hill climb and half pie decided to give it a go, got half way and then really gave it a go (altho probably no change in speed), because of that and Mick there with the camera left 9 without checking and was off line going down the hill, stopped half was down to check as Brent went flying past. Struggled physically through the rest of the course, walls were hard to read in the track tracks and finished pretty buggered and not too impressed with myself

Running 5:00 intensity: (11 @1) + (2:37 @2) + (2:12 @3) 0.55 km (9:05 / km) +4m 8:47 / km

6:48 p.m.. Hawkes Bay.
Course: Sprint 3.1 km http://www.gregjflynn.byethost17.com/maps/show_map...

Talked up as being super fast, so wasn't super excited about this but the challenge of the long finish shoot looked good. Started alright, all the way to 4 I was looking at the choices to 6 and thought there must be a left option but couldn't see the gates, on the way to 5 I was still looking and saw them, but forgot about 5 and missed the small building, looking up to see another small building just inside the olive (not on map), got there and realised right away I had overshot. The rest in the school were good, was oing well again and looking/planning ahead with good flow but could see Gene catching me. Got back into the running legs and it wasn't long before he mowed me down, followed him out of 20, struggling to see the olive patches, then all of a sudden a fence was in front, saw it was olive (pretty obvious on the ground even if you couldn't read it on the map). Not sure about the choice to 22, just going a different way to Gene to see if it was faster. Took a couple of slower steps going into the last control, and took off. Happy bagging the finish split

Running 19:00 intensity: (9:49 @1) + (9:11 @2) 1.38 km (13:46 / km) +0m 13:45 / km

Legs really stiff, spent a long time just jogging around trying to do anything that might help the next day, went and looked at James foot prints through the rose garden everyone else went around, then got on the beers

Arrived at the same time as my start, 6 hours driving not the best prep, oh well. Started last after a quick change and 2 min warm up, surprisingly into the map right away, was reading everything well, and planning ahead with good flow, the best I've had in a long time. Probably not the best route choice for 11, and got thrown off line by some public standing close to 16 so had to do a bit of weaving. Otherwise pretty good and pretty happy with the nav, just no speed. Hammy was fine and rest of body seemed to hold up, altho I had 'Aiden almost cramping' in my quads after.
