10:46 a.m.. Taupo.
Course: Middle 3.9 km

All Nights Post event on W Bay again, Mass Start (no forking). Was in hurtsville from the get go, really tired and heavy. Was a bit of a line forming through the first half dozen then when Brent and Aiden were in front of me they took a wrong route choice and I made a heap of time on them, then I started feeling a bit better, caught Matt before the round the hill leg, and got away from him right before the tree, went into them in about 10th place. Nailed the first few in there, then caught Jamie going to one, which I almost missed the hanging re-entrant, went through the rest in the trees with Jamie, lost a little bit of time on the first one out, as trying to see a way around the green patch, put in a bit of effort to try and break Jamie and got away before the 2nd to last control and tried hammering it from there, which left Jamie in a blubbering mess somewhere as I disappeared. Ended up finishing in 5th, apparently people where all over the show in the trees, ha awesome

11:39 a.m.. Taupo.

Ment to meet Brent and Jamie for a ride in Taupo. Brent piked, and Jamie used his not so awesome replying skills to leave me hanging. So went and rode the W2K track to and from Whakaipo Bay to do the headlands loop that wasn't open last year. Was with Claire for first 30mins before she turned around, then started going harder. Loop is choice, much more single track-like than the main track and some nice flowy bits, crashed once coming back down as the track surface is very loose and the corners are bloody tight when you trying to hammer it.

2:59 p.m.. Taupo.
Course: Middle 3.0 km

All Nights Pre Event, on Whakaipo Bay. Legs were bloody heavy to start, then it was green and tight and at 1:5000 scale I was struggling to keep up, I missed a bit on 2 which was too high, Brent caught me just as I was punching the control, tried to pull a sneaky by calling out "what the fuck is going on" as I punched to cover the beep but he had seen the control. Then took off and missed 3, Brent only got it as someone punched it between the 2 of us after I gone past. Then got stuck in the blackberry at 4. Was mostly ok from then, missed a bit on another (will confirm later) as the scale got me again.

Katoa Po, fuck yeah! Went out about 2 min down on Todd for the lead, took both my batteries as I knew one was partly used but didn't know which (thought the other was fully charged) Caught Todd 3/4 way to 2, then my first battery started to die = SHIT, Stopped for a sec and lost sight of Todd (as he was trying to not shine his light on the ground so I couldn't see him) about 100m before 2 I had to stop and change batteries. Was good for a while, thought 5 would be tricky but nailed it and could see Todd again but again he tried being tricky by covering his light from the side so I couldn't see his exit direction. Then on the way to 6 my other battery started to die = FUCK and it died real quick, got close to 6 but could now no longer see anything further than 10m away. so missed a bit on that. Then on the way to 7, while have a small panic about light and trying to read the slope to know when to go up, I managed to confuse myself with the lines and started reading 9-8, and was navigating into 8 when I came across Todd, then all of suddenly realised and had to climb up and over to 7, by this stage my light was useless, so I stopped on the top and took out my 1 LED maglight (which luckily I took) It was bright as, for about 3 feet, and only really managed to blind me every time I looked at the map. Was hard going with the light and trying to run with it in my hand. Struggled through with it until we came down off the top and then it went flat = MOTHER FUCKER. Really struggled through the last few, using what was left in my head lamp, even changed batteries a couple of times to try and get more, but basically just tried staying on the red line and reading everything under my feet as I didn't want to relocate. Made it to the finish, about 5 mins down on Todd, but loosing shitloads of time and Nick only had a couple of mins on Darren and Brent.

Feel pretty pissed off that I didn't flatten and charge 1 battery like I normally do, piss poor really. Otherwise it probably would have been real fun

Note

Hopefully training should get a hell of a lot better from now. Been fart assing around moving house which also involved semi doing up the said house before hand. Also been really busy at work which makes it hard to update AP properly, good thing for automatic export from sport tracks.

Lost a bit of motivation after work said I couldn't go to WOC due to a massive project but now focused on North American Champs which are booked and paid for (plus a bit of riding at Whistler is getting me all worked up)
