Riverhead Rampage 10km. Riverhead.
10km off road race from the school straight up into the forest through some private property then up a steep ridge to the top of the TONIC map, through the 'middle' map and some of the single track, then a drag along Forestry Rd and a loop around the 'linking' map, then back up through middle map and down ridge back to school. Started pretty casual then somehow just as we hit the single track up onto the ridge I was in front, not really where I wanted to be, anyway was in the lead all the way up the ridge and then tried nailing it down through the slippery single track and had a 100m lead by the bottom (middle event center), then it turned into more of a track run and I got mowed down along Forestry Rd, my achilles also started to tighten here, so tried to back off a little bit, but really I dont think it made much difference I was stuffed.
Finished 4th, just over 2 mins down, not too bad considering how unfit and lacking in any form of race conditioning - and it being my first running race in god knows how long. Beers went down a treat all afternoon.
Checking Tracks for Tomorrow. Riverhead.

Ride to Check Control. Riverhead.

Pick up Controls and Water. Riverhead.
Walking back in with Claire to pick up controls, and all the water bottles and cups, if we weren't so low on water I would have tipped it out, instead I carried out 12L
8 PM
Note
Matt did a good job over the weekend, but by then end his head was obviously already on the plane to Sweden. Still another 4 controls out there to collect, so that 8 left out in total. In fairness 1 he drew in the wrong place for Tom and I said I'll get it dont worry, one Tom definitely missed, and another by whoever had the middle collection map, and then 2 cars full of collectors have twice each driven past 3 others plus the water. After sorting all the controls and boxes tonight, more to pick up tomorrow, this event never ends
