Day 2 at Georgia.

Things went better for me than yesterday. I was much more comfortable with the map and my mind was working better, too.

orienteering race 51:00 [4] ***
15c

GAOC green. This wasn't a very good run. I was orienteering roughly - no flyt. I struggled to understand things. One of those days? I'll try again tomorrow.

I lost my magnifier near control 9. On the way home, we stopped and I tried to recreate my route leaving 9 to the spot I guessed I lost the magnifier. And I found it! Highlight of the day for me.

Also I learned about Don Ds injury from Kissy. She seemed disappointed I don't read her log daily. I'll have to read it more often, I guess.

orienteering 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

A map walk on a KP map near Buford Dam. Walked 2 km with plenty of stops to look at contours and other features. It was a nice open forest. Steep hills.

I consider thus the bare minimum to keep my orienteering technique training streak going.

MTB Orienteering 24:23 [1] 3.38 mi (7:13 / mi)

Another commuter-bike street orienteering session. My legs felt a little shot after yesterday and I wanted an easy day today (and tomorrow) to get them feeling fresh again.

I left work close to 5 and it was light enough that I could read the map without extra light. It was also warm enough that I biked in gloves instead of lobster-mitts. So I carried the map and read it on the ride. Last time I did commuter-bike O' I kept the map in my pocket and only read it when I stopped.

This represents my work commute - to the office and then from the end of the O' course to home.

Night orienteering at Clinton State Park. I ran through some really crappy forest. Crappy even for Clinton.

The physical effort was mostly quite easy.

Fun.

Mary designed a very short course with a load of controls (19 controls over about 1.5 k straight line distance). She printed the map at 1:2500 and I didn't look at it until the moment I started. I ran at a steady pace and at the low end of an honest effort.

This was really "commuter bike orienteering" rather than MTBO.

I crew a course on an O Obrien OOM map and biked it on my way home. I carried the map in my pocket and studied it (and memorized turns) at each control. I was careful to memorize the map rather than just say "oh, that's behind the old bowling alley."

I also tried to keep an eye out for ice. There are a few places around town with some ice on the streets.

The Garmin Connect sync didn't work.I get this message:

500 Internal Error
Oops! Something went wrong, please try again later.
Feel free to contact us for help.

I was able to use the GC sync for the SMP event yesterday. I wonder if it has anything to do with using different Garmins. I haven't gotten the FR10 to work yet.

UPDATE: And today (Tuesday) the GC sync worked, so I added the track.
