8 AM

Running (Road) 23:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 White

Easy jog round the hood hoping to loosen up my back a bit. It's been really stiff the last couple days.
1 PM

Orienteering (Woods) 45:00 [1] ***
shoes: 2140 White

Map hike with Yaya at Powder Valley (1:7.5). Hiked the main loop, picking out features on the map and then identifiying them in the terrain. A bit sad that here we have a 15-year-old map that is still an excellent representation of this pretty little parcel, yet we've only done one meet here and will likely never do another because of the wierd usage rules at Powder Valley. Meanwhile, the Cliff Cave map, which we use constantly and was generally thought of as being pretty good when I did it in 2005 for IC Champs is already hopelessly out of date.
5 PM

Running (Road) 38:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

Firm end of easy in conditions the pleasant end of nasty.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:13:00 [3] ***
27c shoes: Jalas Black

Blue middle course from 2005 Intercollegiates at Cliff Cave (1:7.5) at roughly competition pace, plus some control picking before and after. Good to be in a hyper-technical area after all the fast, open running at Hawn. Nav was reasonably sharp.
5 PM

Note

Nice evening with Bill, Mark, and their families to celebrate the A-meet. As usual, Bill shamed me on the wine, presenting a 1996 Norman Cab just as I was popping the cork on a $9 Cava.

Mapping (Park) 1:00:00 [1] ***
(rest day) shoes: Trail Attack 6

Body was begging for a break, so I just did some work on the Eric's Hood West map.

Orienteering (Park) 24:00 [3] ***
12c weight:177lbs shoes: Trail Attack 6

Sprint course at Queeny (1:5) plus a warmup/down.
7 PM

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 20:00 [4]

Test. Did fine, but the ball of my foot is telling me I could have struck the board better on the jump front snap kick. Yaya got through it with no problem as well - the daily morning pracitice is really showing.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 15:00 [2]

Morning practice with Yaya.
4 PM

FatTire (Trail) 1:09:00 [2]
shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

Mid-70's and sunny, so I figured the CC Lake trails would be OK. They were, but the powerline was still soup.

Orienteering (MTB) 21:00 [2] **
7c shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

Included a short bike-O course that was a mix of singletrack and bikewhack. Won't be able to cut through the woods much longer at CC Lake; vegetation is already starting to bud.
6 PM

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [3]

Family class with Yaya. Big surprise was that Master Warren has asked me to test this cycle - I wasn't expecting that at all. So, both Yaya and I go before the judges tomorrow.

Tae Kwon Do (Sparring) 20:00 [5]

Hung around for sparring class which was probably a mistake given testing tomorrow. Pretty sore, as usual.

Orienteering (Park/Night) 18:00 [2] **
12c (rest day) shoes: Trail Attack 6

Picking up the "controls" for LaNDO 2009 on Eric's Hood East (1:3). Yes really. All the cards were collected during the event, but the little sandwich bags they were in (weighted with bolts) were still out there. Captured some of the original spirit of the event as I had split a bottle of Cava with Kate watching Ru Paul's Drag Race.

Yes, really.

Mapping (Park) 24:00 [2]
(rest day) shoes: Trail Attack 6

Taking the day completely off wouldn't have been a terrible idea, but this is March, so I needed to spend some time on a map. I went for an easy jog checking out the base map for Eric's Hood West. A fair bit of interesting stuff that didn't show up well on the aerials. LaNDO (Late Night Drunken O) might actually require some navigation skill this year.
