ShITR@1:43 (basically marathon effort, but with more fluctuations) plus 4-5 easy miles before and after. Cold, with some bite in the wind, but fine once we were in the woods. First time using the Seca light as a handheld; worked fine and depth perception was much improved over forehead mounting. So fine!

Running (Road) 51:00 [3]
shoes: Sayonara 2

Easy jog round the hood finishing at the gym where I did my M3 (first three miles of marathon, 7:00, 6:50, 6:45) on the treadmill.

Gym (Weights) 15:00 [5]

Then 2 sets, heavy, upper only.

While Spike seemed to be hoping that he could get a cold-weather PR today, I was happy enough that the temp still had 2 digits in it at the start of the run. Actually felt pretty nice except for the mile into the wind. By the time I was done with the weights, I was roasting and stepping back outside for the short jog home (temp had by then dropped to 8F) never felt so good. Of course, by the time I got home, I was quite happy to step back inside.

Yowsa! 5:00 [0]

But not before the year's first Yowsa! session. Temps are supposed to stay low for several days so, even though it was less than an inch, I figured I'd better clear it before Kate drove over it and turned it to ice. The snow was so light, I was able to clear it easily with a push broom.

Running (Road) 57:00 [2]
shoes: Speedstar 6

Old Farm.
4 PM

Running (Track) 1:37:00 [4]
shoes: Grid A2

3x1200@4:24, 3x600@2:09 all 400R. Then 3x300@59 300R.

Moved this up a day since it's predicted to be ridiculously cold for the next day and a half. Was worried that I might not be able to run it only 50 hours after Sunday's session and the first 1200 (in a very labored 4:26) didn't boost my confidence any. I guess I just needed to get the blood flowing because the remaining 1200's were fine and the 600's ended up being a few seconds fast (was targeting the same pace as the 1200's, but the legs had other ideas). Switching to r-pace for the 300's was fun. There's still plenty of hard work to come, but that's the last of the truly scary workouts for this marathon cycle. It will come down to race day.

Terrain (Grass) 40:00 [2] **
(rest day) shoes: Rocklite 315

Powerline Out and Back. More like running on lumpy concrete than grass as the latest frosty spell has the ground rock solid. Was thinking that it really wasn't that terribly cold... until I turned around and realized the wind had been at my back.
