Strength 25:00 [1]

Prenatal yoga. Sylvia joined for some of it, but it's pretty boring for her compared to Cosmic Kids... at least I got through the whole program!

XC skiing 45:00 [2]

Day 3 of ski camp. Back to skating! Definitely more comfy, especially as all those little classic muscles are sore today. Beautiful ski around, some in mountain fog, there was an inversion last night.

Then back down the mountain to Portland life. So great to have had the mini-ski vacation!

XC skiing 1:10:03 [2] 7.26 mi (9:39 / mi) +220m 8:49 / mi

Day 2 of ski camp. Classic. Was probably on the upper end of what I should do, haven't been using classic muscles much and there are lots of classic muscles related to one's core and one's core is all sorts of messed up when 7 months pregnant...

Hiking 45:00 [1] 2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

Family hike, so often quite slow (we actually took an hour). Beautiful views of both Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, depending on which way you looked. A popular dog-walking trail though, so some needing to keep S out of dog-fear-danger.

XC skiing 45:23 [2] 5.92 mi (7:40 / mi) +198m 6:57 / mi

First day of Crocker-Allen ski camp on Mt. Hood! Skating. Easier than last time because the snow wasn't so soft. It was gorgeous out and very empty Thanksgiving late afternoon - saw the moon rise over the shoulder of a mountain at one point, awesome!

We cooked all morning, feasted at noon and brought all our leftovers for re-heading at a little AirBnB studio along the Hood River, only 30 min from the ski area.

Cycling 9:12 [1] 1.43 mi (6:26 / mi) +36m 5:58 / mi

I'm deciding my uphill bike rides home can count as exercise. The downhill coasts in still won't...

Rollerskiing 31:29 [2] 4.52 mi (6:58 / mi) +53m 6:43 / mi

More dry pavement! Drove over to the good pavement this time.

Rollerskiing 36:35 [1] 4.79 mi (7:38 / mi) +74m 7:17 / mi

Rollerski - walked down the hill to the better road, so worth it! Nice smooth pavement and a hill that's got a nice safe run out.
3 PM

Hiking 27:00 [1] 1.41 mi (19:09 / mi)

Family neighborhood walk. So many peacocks! (Went past the peacock/chicken/turkey/goat house.)

Surprisingly, S didn't fall asleep in the stroller. Usually her request for a stroller walk on weekends is an ask to take a nap.

Made a first batch of holiday cookies upon return! Actually, a half-batch, because there is not enough patience to do a full round of cut-out cookies either in this mama or my 3 year-old.

Rollerskiing 34:53 [1] 4.74 mi (7:22 / mi)

Neighborhood rxc on dry streets! Snow up at Mt. Hood, but we're headed up there for Thanksgiving and will get three days of good skiing in with much more minimal driving later this week, so holding out for that!

Friday Nov 20, 2020 #

Hiking 34:38 [1] 1.8 mi (19:14 / mi)

Ah- I am so slow, that Strava calculates a 5 min difference between elapsed time and moving time... I was wondering how each of these nearly-identical walks was getting so much slower each time! (Looked at elapsed time when I finished, compared to previous walks' "moving time". Now editting previous walks.)

Thursday Nov 19, 2020 #

Hiking 36:41 [1] 1.79 mi (20:29 / mi)

Canyon hike. Very empty, bet the students have started to clear out (last in person classes are this week, everyone leaves and stays home from Thanksgiving -> Jan 25th).

So pleased that Reed had no outbreaks during our fall semester! (Yes individual cases, maybe a pair on the same dorm hall, but nothing more than that.)

Hiking 36:29 [1] 1.8 mi (20:16 / mi)

Rainy (by the end) canyon walk. Still nice to get out, but did get a bit wet!

XC skiing 46:20 [2] 5.23 mi (8:52 / mi) +151m 8:08 / mi

Wahoo!! First day of skiing! Sylvia definitely has better ski legs than last year, but it was still hard heading up hill, little dinky skis we have for her don't have much traction even though they are fishscales. Maybe time to move up to the next skis, but need to get some bindings + boots for them. Hopefully they don't require more than her 31 lb to flex...

It was sloooooow snow, fresh, wet and soft. Lots of sinking down. But still, so fun to be out there skiing! It snowed something like 3ft up there over the weekend, so hopefully that will freeze into a great base for the season...

Hiking 42:29 [1] 2.04 mi (20:50 / mi) +64m 18:59 / mi

Rainy neighborhood walk. Rain gear needs re-waterproofing, shoulders definitely soaked through! No one else out. Only saw one person scampering to their mailbox and back.

Thursday Nov 12, 2020 #

Note

Rumor is trails are groomed at Teacup!! Here's hoping the snow holds on for the weekend!!! Skiing has got to be biased early this winter and so want to get S out back on skis!!

Rollerskiing 30:55 [1] 3.88 mi (7:58 / mi)

Neighborhood rollerski. Busy work weekend. Covid still under control at Reed, but cases are definitely surging in Portland. Glad we have only one more week of teaching (some) classes in person/the students being on campus!
