And Balsams Ski-O Day 2, Blue Long

Definitely my longest ski-o yet, was tuckering out by the end for sure. Fun times, looking at splits, I messed up 6 pretty bad by deciding to around the top. Didn't look so bad on paper at all. Guess you lose out on some of the going-down contours cause you *have* to snow plow some of "The Wall", so it's less speedy. Ah well.

Also, Robbie's option of going up the Wall on the long leg looks like it was a bunch faster. I cut a switch back, bet you can see in my track where I slow down almost to a standstill as I almost got eaten by the snow. Doubt that it lost tons of time, but still probably a bit silly...

Came in 2nd for M21, behind Robbie by over 10 min, but sneaking in front of Adrian and Scott for 1st American, woo.

Super duper big thanks to Alex, Ed, Ernst, Lex and Pete and anyone and everyone who actually helped picking up controls or in any other way!! Was super great fun!

XC skiing warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Warm up heading down and some skiing back and forth and then also includes warm down back up to alpine lodge with Sam, chatting away

Ski-O 58:34 [4]

NE Ski-o Champs @ Balsams, Blue Middle

Decided to enter blue to get more training in, see where I was losing time to the guys. Ended up 3rd behind Adrian and Robbie, not bad!

Skis were fast and think I mostly made good route choices, least happy with 4-5, should have started by turning around. Skiing up the wall was good hard work and then down the yellow, but totally ungroomed field was a blast! Almost fell several times, being jerked forward and backwards as the snow change consistencies. Got distracted by the road for 12-13-14, comparing to Adrian and Alex shows it probably wasn't faster, in either direction.

Another set of scrapes for the ski-o skis acquried at the top before the yellow downhill. Guess that's how it goes, but still not happy- will now be the outside edge.

XC skiing warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Trying to warm up in the blustery field!

Ski-O 7:20 [4]

Try 1 at the Balsams Sprint. Some one had gone over the fields with a snowmobile and dragger thing, so map didn't include all of reality. And then most of the dotted tracks made with a snowshoe had totally filled in, so impossible to find. But it was still a sprint, just a different challenge than mapped! First time through went ok, basically just kept track of controls where they were relative to each other because you could see all in the big field.

Ski-O race 6:08 [4]

2nd try at sprint, knew where everything was, just faltered once when I got confused by the presence of 6 heading to 8.

XC skiing 6:00 [2]

Warm down in the white out! Really could not see anything and snow just stinging face, would have been more of an orienteering challenge in that!!

ahr:139 max:162

And last California run! Chillier morning, hands got a bit cold, despite wearing a long underwear top. Ran around rich-person land again, so much nicer without traffic lights every junction. Gates are very in there. Was way psyched that my hammie didn't twinge for the 3rd day running in a row, but then it did later in the day, after lunch, no idea why.

Push ups, blah. But did 15-14-13, with encouragement from Dan.

Morning run down to Caltech and then south of there in rich-person land of windy roads and big houses. Stopped to take pictures of oranges, lemons and grapefruit growing on trees- seems so unnatural to me, surely they just grow in those orange netted bags in supermarkets?
