Note
(rest day)

Ug. Another wake-up-three-times night. (Cereal-bagel-cereal.) A hypothesis: my metabolism is raised by the recent spate of actually getting to work out and is making me need to wake up more during the night. Going to see if taking a day off allows for some better sleep... At least I seem to tolerate eating a slightly wider variety of food during the day. Does help!

Running 26:44 [1] 2.78 mi (9:37 / mi) +39m 9:13 / mi

Not as great a night last night, woke up at 10pm, 12:30pm, 4am needing to quell nausea, bah.

Got out for a run in the morning though, feeling much better! Gotta start tackling the challenge runs again soon here. Goal is to do at least one over the weekend!

Running 29:58 [1] 3.04 mi (9:51 / mi) +58m 9:18 / mi

Goal was to run 3 mi today, did it! Also returned my physical library books while on the run - had them checked out when pandemic started, still not due until Aug. 11th, technically.

Running 25:00 [1] 2.27 mi (11:01 / mi) +89m 9:49 / mi

Another little to get lunch to-go run. This time grilled cheese from the bakery. Did a little tour of Reed's southern campus, which was nice. Easy to stay in shade and away from people!

Managed to sleep from 9:30pm until 3am without waking up nauseous last night! Longest interval of sleep in maybe 2 weeks? Exciting.

Last day of student researchers working with me today. The meet every morning at 9am on Zoom approach has worked well, as did having 2 of them working on a very similar project. We kept in touch during the days on Slack. It was an experiment this summer, we only did 5 weeks as I was nervous it wouldn't work well, but I'd say it worked better than I expected! (Unfortunately we have a negative result. To make it an *interesting* negative result, we need to do some theory work, but were hampered by a server being down from a simulation we wanted to use...) Ah well, tis research.

Haha! Got out running! I have been absolutely miserable recently because of morning sickness. It is hard to explain how awful it is. (And it's super different for different people.) For me, I'm nauseous almost all the time. The only thing that makes it feel better is eating something, but *all* food seems utterly gross and almost gag-inducing. So it's a battle. I'm taking the things recommended to try to help constant nausea, Unisom and vitamin B6 and they do take the edge off at least.

Yesterday and today things have started to seem *slightly* better, so I really, really hope I'm coming out of the worst of it. But I did still wake up 3 times last night needing to eat to quell the nausea - to bed at 8:30pm, up at 10:30pm (Cherrios), 2:30am (bagel and cream cheese), 5am (yogurt), woke up for good at 6:30am. Oh yeah, there's a lot of exhaustion too, so sleeping for 10h a night has to happen...

But yes, that means the good news is that there's a so-far* healthy 9wk pregnancy in my belly, causing all this trouble! Due date: Valentine's Day, 2021.

* - still have some nerves surrounding miscarriage, especially because I had a miscarriage immediately before this pregnancy. But if it's going to happen, it'll happen whether I log about this or not.
