Run - Off road 49:30 [3] 8.6 km (5:45 / km)

In the New Forest for the weekend. Out for a social run pushing the kids in the buggy, with Laura, Justyn and Tobydog.

Yew Tree Bottom, old railway, Setthorns, Longslade, Wilverley Plain, Wilverley Inclosure. Very wet underfoot but warm and sunny above.

Throat finally feeling like it's back to normal.

Orienteering race (JK relay) 42:30 [4] 6.5 km (6:32 / km)
(sick) shoes: Freet Mudgrip

Pwll Du. My debut in the BOK men's 120+ team with Clive and Geoff. Me on first leg. Still not well, but well enough to give it an honest go, dosed up with paracetamol.

I'd heard the courses were going to be worth trying and I'd been promised an easy gaffle by one of the planners.

Despite not even being close to fully fit, my race could have gone a whole lot better.

My left shoe came off in the marsh on the way to #1, and I slipped over and had to scramble back through the first-leg stampede to retreive it from under everyone's feet, losing a good number of places that I'd just claimed by finding a sheep track along the edge of the marsh.

On arriving at #3 I discovered my dibber was no longer on my finger. Had to walk back retracing my route through the heather from #2 and miraculously found it, losing yet more places.

Other than that my navigation was fairly clean, once again presumably due to a slower running speed. There must be a lesson to be learnt here somewhere.

Found myself running with Cap'n Paul for the second half, unable to shake him off my back.

Finished well down overall but 12th in the 120+ race. Over to the legendary Clive to claw us back into 3rd place and then on to Geoff for a head to head with SYO for 2nd/3rd. Finished 3rd overall, so my first ever JK podium finish, despite being ill and losing my shoe and dibber. All credit to Clive and Geoff for making something out of my farce of a first leg.

And thanks to Keith and Mark for my easy gaffle and for a great day.

A fantastic result from Laura on her first leg W120+, finishing in 3rd place.

Run - Terrain 40:00 [3] 6.4 km (6:15 / km)
(sick) shoes: Freet Mudgrip

Unable to resist the temptation after two days of watching everyone racing I decided to take myself for a little run in the terrain on today's competition area. with a hefty dose of paracetamol to temper the throat pain.

Felt ok in general but legs felt heavy and lungs felt reluctant to open fully.

Note
(sick)

Still full of cold and razor blade throat on Friday, both Laura and I decided it was best not to compete in the individual days and to hope that we'd be well enough by Monday to run in the relays. We went to both Sat and Sun to enjoy the atmosphere and see people and of course to get the mini easter eggs from the string course.

Note
(sick)

Clearly Sunday was a premature return to running. By Sunday night my throat was starting to fire warning shots. By Monday morning it felt like I was swallowing razor blades. And Raffy seems to have it too.

Orienteering race (BOK Trot) 1:19:59 [4] 11.4 km (7:01 / km) +340m 6:06 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Trellech Common. Black, 9.5km.

Pretty much over the cold now, but took it steady all the same.

Couldn't bring myself to run the brown of my age class so ran up on black like the old times.

A new area to me, which I quite enjoyed. Running at a steady pace without pushing hard, and surprise surprise, barely any mistakes. The worst hesitances were the three times I refolded my map and lost contact with the map.

Run - Road 48:00 [3] 8.74 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Freet Trailgrip

Daddy daycare this morning, sun out, cold pretty much gone from all of us so took the kids out for a buggy run around the Downs, stopped for a runaround with the ball and frisbee for half an hour or so, then back home again.
