High Vinnals. Black, 10km.

Bad day, bad area, bad run. Only got to #16 of 24 before I ran out of time for Laura to run.

shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295

Ludlow urban race.

Really good. Lovely town for racing around. Good run apart from a shoelace stop between 4 & 5.

Legs really feeling the pain by the end.

On my own, over to Blaise and wiggled my way around. Spotted an O kite down by the stream and remembered it's the first of the BOK summer series tonight. I headed for the main car park hoping to be able to 'borrow' a map and have a little impromptu trot around the Green, but I was too early and all I found there was Anne Donnell with a few leaflets. Carried on my wiggly route and found probably more kites than I would have done with a map in my hand.

slept:8.0 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

With a whole range of excuses from the rest of the boys it was just me and Keef tonight despite Laura having baked chocolate rock cakes for the two birthday boys.

Recovery run around the roads of Stoke the Bishop and Henleaze. Legs quite sore from yesterday, but nothing more than that. Hopefully this recent rest from training has seen my niggles away.

Run - Off road warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom Vomero+ 5

Jogging around the Speech House field before and after.

Run - Off road race (Trailblazer 10k) 37:12 [5] 10.0 km (3:43 / km) +180m 3:25 / km
shoes: Nike Zoom Vomero+ 5

Runners World / Rat Race Trailblazer race, Forest of Dean. Start/finish at Speech House.

All on forest tracks and paths, mostly downhill for the first 3k, then a long constant uphill slog for the next 3, then flat and down to the finish.

I took the lead straight away and began to worry that I was going to look like a pot hunter if I had no challengers. But by 2k a guy had caught up and was on my heels for about a couple of k before pulling ahead and leaving me way behind.

I finished at least a minute behind him and about that ahead of the next guy. Good race I thought, happy with 2nd place, failing to notice the guy in front wasn't wearing a race number. Despite the £30 entry fee, got good value in the goodie bag: tshirt, 3 magazines, recovery drinks and medal. Plus loads of other freebies from the RW tent.

Then prizegiving happened. 2nd place went to some other guy. Odd, how has that happened? Someone in one of the other start waves did faster time than me? Then I got called up for first place. The front guy was a pace setter from Saucony apparently, but noone thought to mention this when I finished. Awesome! Add to the day's value a bottle of champagne, box of chocolates and a £100 voucher for the Rat Race online shop. Which was nice.

Team Monday from the skankpit with the ATeam and Mark S. Steady little trot around AC. Nice evening for it. Legs a little sore but otherwise fine.

Orienteering race (BOC Relays) 43:58 [4] 6.75 km (6:31 / km) +170m 5:47 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: VJ Supra

Tankersley Woods. Mens' Premier BOK B team 1st leg. 5.4km.

Started well. Was up at the front of my pack for the first few, but led them all the wrong way to #5. Came out of #7 the wrong way losing me a few places then I started to get really scrappy after that. My map contact fell to pieces and started to make lots of little mistakes. Felt like I spent ages on the last loop, and I guess I did cos all the guys I'd been in a pack with were well ahead by the end.

Enjoyed it a lot more than yesterday though. Terrain was far more interesting and the map was good to go with it.

Think I finished 24th. Well done Keith and Duncan for claiming a whole load of places back. And well done to the ATeam. Great reslut.

Orienteering race (BOC ) 2:30:00 [3] 17.0 km (8:49 / km)
slept:6.0 shoes: VJ Supra

Wharncliffe, Sheffield

Boo. Four weeks of next to no training, a 05.30 start to the day, and splits starts. Not the way to go about doing an elite classic race. I was planning to drop down to Long but decided last minute to give Elite a shot.

The little confidence I had was shattered when Ben overtook me before #3, and it ddn't get any better. I was relying on my slower running speed giving my nav a chance to work, but no that didn't happen.

I got to #27 in 2:05 and realised that if I carried on at the pace I was doing I was unlikely to make it back in time for Laura to run so I jacked it in and jogged back.

I think it's safe to say my (wannabe) elite days are over for the time being.

Run - Off road 29:00 [3] 6.65 km (4:22 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295

I remembered that tomorrow there's a big race to run and also remembered that training improves performance. So I decided to do some. For a change.

In Sussex at the moment so I popped out for a gentle trot round the back of Ifold and on to the canal path and back.

It's safe to say I can give up hope of any UK Cup points this weekend. Getting to the finish will be a challenge.

Orienteering race (BOK local) 40:00 [4] 6.0 km (6:40 / km) +180m 5:48 / km

Cannop Ponds Blue course.

Nice area, good little bit of forest, and a good course, until #13 where the map just wasn't right. Spent about 7 mins trying to find it, then gave up as it was right next to the finish anyway so I retired.

slept:6.5 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295

Team Monday away day to the Mendips, my first time to these parts. Mark B, Craney and Keith, with Hanne & Grace on the girlie run.

Lovely run along some bridleways from Burrington Coombe to the Roman fort, through some nice woodland, followed by a good bit of climb up and over Beacon Batch. Stunning views from the top.

Didn't feel too bad given my lack of running recently, and it seems that my hip ache has gone.
