Had been feeling really bad and with a MP, DNF and a DNS coming into the race wasnt too enthusiastic. Spent all day yesterday resting in bed but still felt terrible and really faint and lacking in energy.
Rosco had a great run on first leg to send me off not too far down and well in the race. On the way to No.1 decided to take it steady as Treb came hammering past me to the kite. I then spiked no1 and so got back ahead, over the dunes towards 3 I could see EUOC 1 and 2 Spongey and Huw about 100m ahead. Had the same gaffle as Huw and caught him at 4, and didnt see Sponge again but turns out I passed him somewhere as he had another gaffle. Caught sight of Neil northrop of SYO 1 who started one minute ahead, and I nearly caught him, and was caught by Rob Baker of the other SYO team, they were running too fast for me as I was already struggling physically and feeling really sick, but because I was cleaner in the circles I was gaining ground on them. They caught james Taylor up near the end and had the race to finish 2,3 and 4, but I was really in pain by this point so focussed on just getting cleanly round the final few controls and finished about 20s down on them but with the 4th best time on the leg, despite forgetting to punch the finish for ages and so having a run in split 20s slower than my real time.
Really pleased as I pulled us up from 9th to 5th, and had I had a bit better shape i couldve been in the race to finish 2nd on the leg. Technically was absolutly perfect, like to the point where i couldnt find a single second to improve from my run, just a shame my physical shape has kinda fallen apart. At least ive shown what I can do when I get the technical part right, now I just need to get the physical side right and we'll see just what I can do.
