Whew.

Note

Am really struggling with the courses at SCEE for January. I may have to bag the planned Red course - it will depend on what's really part of the center and what's private land since otherthere's just not enough nice woods. Perhaps I'll do a sprint instead.

Yoga/Pilates (Yoga Class) 1:30:00 [2]

Another great class. Worked pretty hard tonight.

orienteering race 51:02 [3] 4.7 km (10:51 / km)

Fun green course at the HVO dual event. The woods were very, very nice and the course was like a middle.

So around 10:30am I change my mind for the umpteenth time and decide that yes, I will make the trip to Eagle Rock. Although the drive on the NJ turnpike was not appealing, I would be able to hand off epunch equipment for next weekend's event at Batsto to the Barker's who were planning to be at the event. So I quickly rounded up everything and got on the road a little after 11. Got to the event at about 12:50, 10 minutes before the deadline. Got to the start line a little after 1 and take off. The first minute in the woods and glancing at the map told me to just run straight for almost every leg and ignore all trails. Which I did and had very little trouble. It helped that many of the controls were placed so that I could see the flags from a good bit away; I have to believe that Red was using the same controls and approaching from the other side on many of them. Anyway, it made for a an easier course for me and I only had hesitation errors when I would have to slow way down to read the map - the cold had my eyes tearing so it was hard to read without stopping and the footing in places was a little rocky so I had to take it easy.

I probably could have found 4 minutes by running harder in places and being more focused which is really cool because I never thought I'd be close to 10 min k's again. Someone also didn't really vet the printed map very well since the fifth control had the number 17 right next to it and the 17th control had 5 as the course crossed over itself there and the numbers must not have been moved from where they were put by OCAD or Condes or whatever was used. Had to stop and decide which circle was I really supposed to be going to! Wonder if anyone else got confused by that.

Didn't stay long after I finished; was fifth on green (I think), first female when I left.

I got lucky with traffic on the drive up which was good since otherwise I would have been late, but ran into some on the way home. But once again, the traffic in the opposing lanes was much worse on both the trips to the event and home. I have been really lucky in that regard for the last couple of months.

map hiking 2:30:00 [1]

Course setting at the Schuylkill Center. It is going to be very challenging to set fun courses; I definitely have some work to do.

Yoga/Pilates 1:15:00 [3]

Good class tonight working on poses requiring some leg strength.

Yoga/Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Followed by a pilates class that was fine, but nothing special. I think I'll stick to the hard core dvd for my core workouts.
