Oof. Parts of that were hard.
Inspired by Greg's recent race there, I decided to check out Blue Mountain this afternoon. It's a ski area about 20 minutes south of me. I actually took my kids skiing there a few times when they were younger. During the spring/summer/fall they have a huge network of mountain bike trails (take the lift up, bike down) and a few hiking loops.
The loop I did had a boring flat section through some fields that are used for camps in the summer I think, then a very pretty not very steep section in the woods that meandered up for a while zig-zagging back and forth. Then a pretty steep section out on a ski trail that was in the sun - that was tiring. I took a wrong turn at one point but the trail was marked pretty well and I finally noticed I wasn't seeing any markers so turned around and made my way back to where there were signs and figured it out. Then there was a final brutal push to the very top that was really hard - had to sit down and take a break at one point. It then had a nice section up on top of the ridge going from the top of one ski lift to another until it started going back down. I should have stayed on the ski slopes for this part but started on the marked trail route since it was in the woods so shaded. But after a short bit it was straight down a rocky slope and I had to sit down several times and go down like a crab. Crazy. I finally saw a way to cut over through through the trees and get on a ski slope that had plenty of switchbacks to make it much more gentle descent.
A good workout; I'll probably do it again.
They also have some cool high ropes courses and zip lines and rock climbing walls and laser tag. That might be fun to try.
