White course at Hickory run, fun for the whole family! The start was at the State Game lands parking lot on PA534, which I remember starting from a couple times when I was a kid. Evidently they were using up a supply of 25 year-old offset printed maps, made in 1988... which sounds about right. In a comical way, the map was 1:15000 and about 1 foot by 2 feet, and the white course took up about a postage stamp-sized area in one corner!
We took our family time. Max affirmed that many trees were broken and he wanted to fix them. Zoe affirmed her fear of grasshoppers, but not bees, worms, or frogs. No one but me liked the cicada. Everyone loved the blueberries -- so the split between 3 and 4 was a bit long...
The trail network was mostly overgrown (tall summer grass) but passable, and one mapped trail, which the coursesetters streamered between 1 and 2, was really gone. The footing there was pretty tricky, downhill over rocky ground with lots of downed branches. Note to self: don't do this to anyone on a white course I set.
