Orienteering race 1:30:02 [3] ***** 6.9 km (13:03 / km) +755ft 11:11 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

More fun at Moreau. I settled in a little better on Sunday, but still extremely slow. I made the same 'there's a trail' error out of the start (and on #9) that I did on day 1, so I've learned something -- at least here desk jockeying.

Felt smoother, more relaxed, more confident. Didn't do any better, but had more fun, which counts for a lot. Fun head-to-head with Kristen Hall for a control or two ... a blast from the past! Good to see other old-timers (oh god) getting back out in the woods.

A few more days out there and I would have gotten up to speed, if my legs could take it.

It's a shame that Brown didn't get to play on the plateau top.

Orienteering race (Classic) 1:28:30 [3] ***** 6.9 km (12:50 / km) +951ft 10:36 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

Wow, wow, wow, the terrain at Moreau State Park is incredible. It kept a poor performance on my part fun, interesting, and pleasantly slow. Thanks for a great day 1, EMPO! Why can't my backyard be attached to that map somehow?

Analysis to follow.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 19:04 [5] 2.6 mi (7:20 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Mudroc 290

US Champs Sprint. Nice and wet and cool. Saw some folks I haven't seen in many, many years. Did fine for my level of confidence and shape. Only downside is wet shoes going into tomorrow, but no big deal because they'll just be wet right away anyway.

Good fun in fun terrain.

1 - Shoulda gone left around the swamp (bad luck), slow start 2x minor hesitations, 0:20
2 - Slow up the hill but clean
3 - Clean -- small duel helped for a change
4 - Hesitated, 0:10, duel still helping some
5 - Hesitated, off right, distracted by duel, 0:20
6 - Initial hesitation down hill (opportunity lost), 0:10
7 - Right by it! Even SAW it! Pace count bad, 0:30
8 - Clean, felt good.
9 - Clean.
10 - Clean.
11 - Clean.
12 - Clean.
TTL Lost = 90 sec.
