Note
(rest day)

Couldn't train today. (oh darn).
Woke up at 4:40 to get to Brattleboro by 7:30 to survey along the cold breezy Route 5.
By the time I got home i was still frozen i think, and my quad bruise was hurting, so we just made a nice fire and watched a movie instead. sweet!

Orienteering race (Blue Hills Traverse) 2:09:09 [5] *** 13.2 km (9:47 / km) +350m 8:38 / km
ahr:169 max:180

I had a decent race, nav'ing on my own, except for the first couple controls where it's just all-out mayhem, but then I settled into an ok pace. It actually felt too fast, but I was thinking that I just wasn't warmed up enough yet and that i'd get into a rhythm soon...turned out, no. I felt really sluggish in general and the bedroom slippers (aka soloman) shoes that I was wearing weren't helping (nor was the carbo-loading of beer last night).
On the way across a steep slippery slope going to 6, I slipped and landing on a sharp rock with my quad. It wasn't a problem until running down a trail to 20 that I tripped and caught myself with that same bruised right leg. My muscle just wrenched tight and from then on it was like my IT band/quad muscle just didn't want to work anymore. on the final downhill (trail from road down to where I was cutting across to 22) I couldn't run and was just tip-toeing down due to sharp pains that felt almost like a strong cramp running down my leg.
But, i finished, it's cool. My right leg now has a matching blackish blueish hue to match the blackish blueish hue on my left leg (still from that soccer game last week!)
Love running in those Blue Hill woods...except that I would have loved it that much more if I had studded shoes for all those slick oak leaves...!!

Note
(rest day)

no training today... we left for Boston mid-afternoon and stayed at Tora and Ryan's apartment. Fantastic dinner at Jacob Worth and then some more drinks afterwards (I don't think this helped the racing situation on Sunday)...

AND!!! I got an iPhone!!! wooooohoooo! It's awesome.

Swimming 33:00 [2]

lappppssss.....
and drillllssssss.....
but no hot tub (yet) because I went out for a run right after!

Running 37:00 [3]
ahr:151 max:165

started out realllly slow. running right after swimming is just hard. Got going after about 15mins but it was cold and my face and ankles and butt were freezing! i need some cute little fleece shorts or something.. haha!
So, after my run i went and jumped into the hottub and wow, it hurt! The water was so hot on my cold legs that the hotwater actually felt cold.. strange feeling. so good though. then out to the shower, sauna, clothes and work. good morning!

Swimming 35:00 [2]

Felt really really good to swim today. My form felt perfect and I felt fast.

Soccer 40:00 [3]

We won again! 5-4 and 6-0 for the season!! I blocked a ball, that was kicked really hard, with my quad and even now (17 hours later) i still have the imprint of the seams and a good bruise...just from a soccer ball! It's not like I got kicked directly... man.

Core strength (pilates) 1:00:00 [1]

so good.

Running 35:00 [3]

Run up to the highway overpass and back on the rail trail from the gym after pilates. Cold and snowing! I didn't have my watch or HR monitor on, so I had no idea how hard I was running. Since i haven't run for a while, and since it was cold and snowing, it felt like I was moving quick but my breathing wasn't hard, so i think I was actually moving quite slow! ohwell, it was a good easy first run for the week!
The best part about this running in the morning is getting to sit in the sauna afterwards!! love it.
