I had a decent race, nav'ing on my own, except for the first couple controls where it's just all-out mayhem, but then I settled into an ok pace. It actually felt too fast, but I was thinking that I just wasn't warmed up enough yet and that i'd get into a rhythm soon...turned out, no. I felt really sluggish in general and the bedroom slippers (aka soloman) shoes that I was wearing weren't helping (nor was the carbo-loading of beer last night).
On the way across a steep slippery slope going to 6, I slipped and landing on a sharp rock with my quad. It wasn't a problem until running down a trail to 20 that I tripped and caught myself with that same bruised right leg. My muscle just wrenched tight and from then on it was like my IT band/quad muscle just didn't want to work anymore. on the final downhill (trail from road down to where I was cutting across to 22) I couldn't run and was just tip-toeing down due to sharp pains that felt almost like a strong cramp running down my leg.
But, i finished, it's cool. My right leg now has a matching blackish blueish hue to match the blackish blueish hue on my left leg (still from that soccer game last week!)
Love running in those Blue Hill woods...except that I would have loved it that much more if I had studded shoes for all those slick oak leaves...!!
