Oceania Long at Kangaroo Crossing. One of my favourite maps.
The splits tell the sad story. On results this appears to be a good run, but it was far from that in the last section. Felt really tired and sluggish most of the course but was getting really brain-tired. Was aware of that and made a special effort to concentrate leaving 8. Got 9 and 10 ok but then lost heaps of time on11. Was actually quite close but did not identify features and lost 3 minutes there. I compounded this by losing a further 2 minutes on the most basic control going (13). It appears I left 12 in the wrong direction. So lost the championship I. 2 separate efforts!

Despite all the above, I did really enjoy today. I love this map!

Adding insult to injury - 13 was one of Aoife’s controls on the (very well set) easy course.

2nd to Jenny :( not happy about this one.

3rd leg Oceania relays in a team with Jenny and Barbara. We did not have much kiwi opposition (Marquita could only run one leg...) but were hoping to put up a fight for the W45 team. (Wendy did not make the cut for our team but ran with Clare and Cathy). They smashed us! I took a poor route to 1, slow after that from all the climb, did not see track option to 6 but really enjoyed the way I went. Lost a heap of time on 8, a dangerous short steep downhill leg. A bit annoyed to find not everyone had this leg and most went straight to 9. Struggled to get down the hill to 9. Ok from there.

Australian Long at Split Rock Cootamundra. I could have done better here, probably not won it, but could have been closer. Not really many mistakes but a bit sloppy at times and really sluggish to start.

Kept getting confused by W45s. Cathy McC caught up to me going up a hill and made me feel very unfit with her speed, but it turns out she wasn't doing to ridiculous uphill slog on her course. The I kept seeing Jenni A at all sorts of random angles before we ran much of the end together. Given the earlier randomness I ignored her, thinking she was having a very bad day, but in fact she was on a different course.

Some epic climbing today.

3rd to Barbara and Jenny.

Oceania sprint at Charles Sturt university. A bit sad not to get to run up on the hillside (though not sad that I missed out on climbing the hill in front of spectators!). I went OK and better than expected for this. Only 2 real mistakes - once I went to an underneath of bridge rather than top - even though I had picked it as being at the top, just forgot that part way through the leg when I thought I'd found a faster route than the one I was doing. The next major time loss was a small path direct to 10 that I did not see. I almost need a degree larger magnification in glasses for sprint maps!

Very impressed with my focus. A lot of people lost time at the control in the start area and the next one. I did not even realise I'd been back through there until I was watching the mayhem while manning the start later on.

Totally failed at silent start - both when starting myself and for others :). I don't think anyone minded!

2nd to Barbara after Jenny MP'd. Missed 9 which was easy to do given it was very near 6.
