Junior Training Camp - I really have no idea how much or how long I ran today, but by my estimation I spent about 6 hours out in the woods either training the juniors or hanging/picking up flags. Some training activities I did with the kids included a compass-only exercise (I ran the course and picked up flags along the way) which took me about 45 min. I also ran the 3k race which I already logged, but since I was pacing the juniors I just jogged it with them. In the afternoon I shawdowed two of the girls so we were out jogging through the woods for about an hour as well. Like I said, the rest of the day was spent running about intermittently to hang controls, or pick them up.

Hanging Night/Score-O controls for the junior training camp. My project for the training camp was to design Friday evening's training event a night-o that was also a score-o. I didn't get to run much while I was hanging since I was carrying around 18 controls and poles with reflective tape, but it was still nice to get out on a map. The map that we were training on was only 1:5000 with almost too much detail so hanging the controls was a good exercise in precision map reading.

Unfortunately, after all the trouble the night-o was cancled for Friday night because a lot of the juniors didn't get in till late Friday night or early Saturday morning. We ran the event on Saturday night instead and I think that every one had a good time on the course.

Stregnth Training 30:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 9

Ultimate Core Workout Class
Since I am about as motivated to do push-ups and sit-ups after a run as I am to do my dishes after dinner, I decided to pay a visit to the fitness center at NARA. I usually spend my lunch hour online checking my email, weather, news, clicking around AP so its as good a time as any to get some stregnth training in a couple of times a week.

During the lunch hour today the center offered a core workout class that was pretty good. It was fast-pace, but not so much so that I couldn't keep up and practice good form at the same time. Most of the class consisted of crunches and planks and the many, many variations of them to work all of the different muscle groups. I enjoyed the class quite a lot, but found it disconcerting that I was the youngest (by at least 15 years) and the one that, by appearance looked to be the most in shape, yet I could barely finish the workout when most of the other women kept right on chatting. Haha, just goes to show you that appearances are often deceiving.

Note

I'm so bummed. I reallllllllly wanted to go orienteering today, but, unfortunately, we had terrible storms all day. I actually woke up this morning to two of the loudest claps of thunder I have ever heard (and subsequent torrential down-pour), but I did not give up hope. By the time I was planning to leave though it was pretty clear that the weather was not going to let up. I am not a fair-weather orienteer by any means, but nor do I love driving an hour to going out in pouring rain to run in some pretty steep terrain with thunder crashing over my head.
