QOC Oregon Ridge (Mid-Atlantic Championships) - Green

You would think I've never done this before. Really.

Uphill, climb climb climb out of the start. Drifted way right at some point without knowing it. Crossed what I thought was the big trail, nothing really making sense now. Saw a control, went down to it... it was 2. At least now I knew where I was. Headed back to 1, then to 2 again which was easy enough since I'd already been there.

2 to 3.... must have drifted downhill. Need to evaluate Forerunner tracks to see exactly where I wandered in here. Tried to relocate off of the big reentrant and ended up way southwest of the control at the black x. From there finally able to get to the bag.

4, longest leg on the course, and ironic enough that it was probably the best. Went south, staying high, hit the trail and then crossed the ride. Southeast to the huge reentrant and then around the side, along the stream, onto the trail segment and up into the little green reentrant. This last bit seemed to take forever but the control was right where I expected it, finally.

5, pretty much straight, okay, no problems.

East to pick up the trail just above the ride, then past the ski lift remnants and down the ski slope. Cut into the woods and went down to the reentrant. Stood right at the tree and did not see the pit. Went back and forth between the 2 trees and up and down the reentrant. Finally returned to the original tree and found the pit much higher than expected. Tons of time wasted here. Thought I must be wrong because I had been wrong all day. And that was incorrect too!

Went out to the open and weaved my way up to 7. Despite how green the map looks, it was easy to get in to the control. Tried to go out northwest, but when I saw the house it looked like it could be private property and there was someone sitting out in the yard. So I picked my way through a ton of crap to the other small clearing with 2 buildings, then down across the parking lot and fields to 8. And then the run in to 9, though there were lots of other thickets and trees in the area that weren't really mapped well, but hit the right one and at least avoided looking dumb on the way to the finish.

First relay leg. Tried to push it but I was exhausted from the morning.

horseback riding (english) 1:00:00 [3]

Lesson on William. Just me and Cara in the lesson tonight, so lots of jumping. By the end my legs were so dead.
