Note

Today is my 10th anniversary of running regularly. It was while watching the 2004 NYC marathon on TV that I decided to get back in shape once and for all. I did not discover orienteering until 2007.

shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Despite some scary weather reports during the week, we had great weather at Wakpominee (45, mostly sunny in the morning; it did rain later but not until we were wrapping up). I got good compliments on the courses, particularly orange. I should have added one more control on red rather than using #52 by the road, which was really an orange control.

I spent a lot of time planning these at home on the computer, and when I field-checked everything two weeks ago about one-third of the features were not as distinct as I liked, so I moved them to the nearest similar distinct feature.

We had some new people, and some out-of-staters (one from Pennsylvania!), but the turnout among our club regulars was low. Maybe people thought it was too far away? The first year I was in the club, I was 6th of 7 in my age group (M35), and I thought there was no chance I'd ever be a club champ. Yesterday, that category was vacant. Only two categories were contested at all (M55 and F21). While you can have a perfectly fun event with 20-30 people, we really could use some new members, and I think that means spending some money to buy some publicity. I think the right time to do this would be for the next A meet.
