Orienteering 46:06 [2] ***** 5.61 km (8:13 / km) +90m 7:37 / km
spiked:13/26c slept:6.0 shoes: Mudclaw 333 (4)

Broke up the journey from Tricky Ricky the Third's town with a bit of a pootle round Hugsett. Fucking confusing! 50% spike rate is very generous, although I was getting into it a bit more by the end.
Includes jogging about before and after.

Had planned on an evening jog, but knackered so no.

Running - Trail 16:08 [2] 3.42 km (4:43 / km) +30m 4:31 / km

Orienteering race (Midland Champs, Sherwood ) 1:52:46 [3] **** 20.25 km (5:34 / km) +221m 5:17 / km
spiked:24/34c shoes: X-talon 212 (2)

SL: 17.7km/ 195m. Winner: Romuladas, 1:31:22 (123%)

Legs weren't really with it today - I check my average pace on a few tracks after leaving terrain and it wasn't dropping like it would do when feeling fresh. However, Nav was generally good (1 doosy, a couple each of bananas and very hesitant), generally not as hesitant as last year. A good 'base level' performance to measure myself against going forward.

Winsplits has only gone red on #9 (yep, found 10 first and still mucked it up - hence fastest split to 10!) and 23 (yep, banana'd, poor bearing, v hesitant). Other mistakes I picked up on were:
- poor direction out of #5 (so got stuck in grot, not sure where I came out of it so hesitant)
- slow to 11. I think this was more down to running speed/legs (I went left round the paths btw)
- v hesitant into 12 - no real plan, making it up as I went.
- very slow out of 17 (very easy)
- AP for 20 (area of dense undergrowth) had been well flattened by the snows. got lucky.
- 22 and 25, banana'd, poor bearings, need to take more time coming out of control.
- 31, cut through forest, should have stuck on path. Dodgy bearing from mid-point of leg meant too far north.

My processes (have a plan and AP) were generally better than previous, as were bearings, but still slip at times. Discipline in the last 20mins slipped quite a bit (would normally expect myself to be fresher after 90mins)

Really enjoyed it, well worth the trip down, and everything is pointing in the right direction!

Derby with Dave. Despite being raised in Derbyshire, this was my first visit to Derby. 1st thing that happened? Some lush yelled 'one pound fish' in my face. Legs still feeling Thursday! Too much abuse and not enough rest over the last week!

Note

Sunday's area looks like just the kind (navigationally) that I normally hate (I say hate, I mean perform badly on) - vague veg changes, no massive APs so bearing reliant. Challenge. Accepted!

would like to have been a little quicker, but was finding it a bit more difficult to breathe deeply than usual, suggests I'm still not on top form so fairly pleased with these times.

Edale Skyline entry in. 2 months to sharpen up. Jan was a good month up until this week, but I think the rest will have done me good. Lots of O lined up in the next few months as well, to break things up at the weekend.

HFW. Still feeling a bit tired and achy and had a headwind for most of this, but pleased to have ground it out, picking the pace up a bit at the end.
Just about got back with enough time to turn myself around before chorus.
