Orienteering race 1:24:09 [5] 11.3 km (7:27 / km)
shoes: Adidas swoops 2
My warm up was minimal as the legs were very tired from fridays session.
Set off about 5 mins behind Dave and decided to take Limb Valley steady. I didn't want to blow up later in the course and needed to nail the navigation as the only way I was going to catch him was if he made a few errors.
I didn't hit #1 and ended up next to the lake.
I dropped time at #8 as I took the safer path crossing to the west.
Going up to #10 the sun was in my eyes whilst searching for the control. I looked to the left a few times to make sure I wasn't too low and caught sight of Dave. GAME ON!!!
After a bit of banter on the way to the first spectator control I got ahead and tried to keep good lines and in constant contact with the map.
Hit the road crossing in front and thought Dave had made an error. I then kept the pace steady across the road and kept to some safe routes.
I lost 2 mins at #19. Got confused at the very end of the leg somehow and wasn't sure between the small tracks and large. I didn't spend time aimlessly searching for it and just relocated as quickly as possible.
I started to get cramp in both calves which is worrying for the IM at the road crossing but found out that Dave hadn't got in front of me. I saw Todd Oates near #27 so knew I wasn't going too bad and then again as he was going out of the the spectator control.
I put my foot down here but never saw him in the woods again.
Very happy with the run with only a few time losses and finishing in front of BAOC:-)
