Orienteering 2:06:05 [3] *** 8.3 km (15:11 / km) +440m 12:00 / km
16c (sick) shoes: Saucony Trail

Red Long Course at Morgan Territory! I volunteered to work starts before going out on my course today, which I figured would be a fairly straightforward sort of thing to do. Unfortunately, there were two major problems with this. The first was that the start times on people's bibs were 20 minutes earlier than their actual start times (which were emailed to them earlier in the week). I spent the first half of the start block trying to help people understand this (admittedly non-ideal) situation, and ended up moving a lot of people's start times to earlier start times. The second problem was that there were apparently insufficient shuttle seats, such that for the second half of the start blocks a phenomenal number of people were late to their starts, and had to be given later starts. In the end, I think only about half of the people started at their actual start times.

This was perhaps not the most calming way to go into an orienteering race, and I am also still sick, so it was perhaps not all that surprising when I proceeded to blow 15 minutes to mistakes in the first 3 controls. Leaving 3 (where most of the time was lost), I told myself that this course was going to be a lot more fun if I could just go to the correct place instead of also going to all the other places, and miraculously this actually worked! I put the idiocy of the first 3 controls out of my mind and had a great rest of the course. I wasn't moving particularly quickly, and there was much wheezing and stuff, but I was moving in the correct direction. It was also absolutely gorgeous out there with green grass and wildflowers and cows and awesome views of Mt. Diablo and hilarious views of the flatness of the central valley, which could only be seen after huge climbs up ginormous hills. So, yeah, this actually ended up being extremely fun!

Labyrinth-O with Presto! Tori and Carlo set up a super fun orienteering maze, so Presto and I obviously had to check it out. I am now even more excited to some day actually make it to a corn maze-O.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back at home. I am most definitely sick.

Running 30:01 [3] 3.1 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Running with Presto after lab! I'm starting to feel like I'm getting sick, but also kind of still feel fine, and Presto clearly required exercise tonight, so we headed out the door. I felt a bit better once I was running but then worse once I got home. Hopefully this is fairly short lived... This was a good deer night, so Presto had quite a good time anyway!

Stretching 4:00 [3]

It was harder to get off the couch than usual tonight, so this stretching session was a bit abbreviated.

Running 31:44 [3] 3.6 mi (8:49 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Running at Asilomar! With the time change, I was somewhat tempted to skip my run this morning, but I woke up a bit before my alarm, so I decided to head on out for a quick run before the morning talks. It was a bit rainy and stormy today, which made the surf really awesome to watch while running, so I'm definitely glad I managed to get myself out of bed!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching after getting home from my concert. This was a busy weekend.
