Orienteering race 1:12:27 [4] **** 8.8 km (8:14 / km) +270m 7:08 / km
spiked:10/23c (injured) shoes: Olway

M50L British Championships, Wharncliffe & Greno near Sheffield. Tough forest, good map, excellently planned course with a challenge on virtually every control. Lots of route choice and very few "gimme's". Struggled after a long lay-off due to lambing time and made worse by a clash with an obdurate ovine - a sheep's heid (particularly a horned one) is harder than my knee- resutling in some lateral ligament damage. Set off with a couple of ibuprofens on board to try and ease the pain which helped with my knee but not when I tweaked a hip muscle early in the race! Lots of little misses and hesitations and some debatable route choices but only one major miss (~ 2 mins) at 21 when tiredness had well and truly set in and I missed the boulder hidden in a thicket. A day for grinding out a result, so relatively happy with 7th behind Tett on 61, Bagness on 62 and Dean on 65.

Note

Was it worth a 375 mile round trip and 7 hours of driving??
Yes it was, if only to see the smile on Doug's face!!!!
