After many years of wanting to do it finally made it to the start line. After the first 100m tucked in behind Jonny Brownlee and Tom Adams but after about 500m the gap to them started growing and although my intention beforehand was to try and keep up for as long as possible decided to stick to a more sensible pace.
Jack caught back up after about 1km but as soon as we hit the top of the first hill he seemed to start going backwards and another guy was just on my tail. I could see the two ahead every so often until we turned at the end of Danefield (about half way).
The guy behind seemed to drop off but wasn't sure how much I had on him until the bottom of the Chevin climb when the path turns a sharp corner back on itself and then the gap seemed about 10-15s. Took the hill steady and the crowds were strong once the top was in sight.
The road after this was the toughest part. Slightly uphill and then downhill but the wind was so strong it didn't feel like I was making much progress on any of it. At this point I saw who I thought was Tom ahead of me on the path down towards the finish.
From then on was fairly confident I wasn't going to get caught and was a nice downhill run to the finish.
