Club Minor 1:05:05 [4] 4.3 km (15:08 / km)

Minor for Fathers Day at Sugarloaf.

Not the best of runs. Was feeling yesterdays parkrun in my legs and felt fairly flat and consequently walked a lot of the inclines, even some downhill.

For the third time in the last four events I forgot to pick up control codes. I must make it a bit easier on myself especially when we have to mark our own maps and my circles are so crap.

Nearly fell headfirst into the (dry but rutted) watercourse on the way to no1 but just managed to regain my balance before going in. Not a great start I was thinking. No2 I just couldn't see but it was such a simple control I couldn't work out whhat was going on. Eventually spotted it roughly where I first glanced. Lost a minute or two on No3 as I shot past it a contour or 2 too low. Bummer. Really tired already. No problem to 4 but a tad slow likewise with 5. Headed straightline toward the rockfaces above 6 but then went to early and confused myself to loose a minute or two more. On the way to No7 ran with Jutin and I think I ran too fast for myself as I didn't keep track of where I was and suddenly nothing fitted. Fairly lucky to find a Long control and figured the feature it was on so only lost a minute or two when it could have been much worse. Pinged 8 while I curse Denis for the down and back of 9 (we both agreed it was either that or a very long track run back) no probs 10 or 11 and then fastest split on 12. None of the others representd any nav difficulty except the last on when I spotted a flag that seemed to early. It was bit I checked it out as I didn't have the codes. Should have just punched it and then punched the correct one which I figyred was surely further on. Middle of the bunch but not as far off the pace as I expected. Looks like others had some problems as well considering my pedestrian pace.

Newy Park Run 31:36 [3] 5.0 km (6:19 / km)

Only 23 seconds off a PB which I'll take considering how I felt and the slowing down effect of traffic caused by of a whopping 589 starters.

As usual, started toward the rear (where the walkers ought to be!!!) so it took me 33 seconds to cross the start line and I didn't even take a jogging step until 50 seconds into the run. The first kilometer was bedlam for we pram pushers. People everywhere, changing lanes, it is hard for prams to be flexible in this sort of traffic so by the 1 km mark I was about a minute down. This slow run meant I did come home a bit stronger overtaking many more than overtook me but I just couldn't make up the lost ground. My PB of two weeks ago always looked safe and never threatened to any degree. As I said I'm pleased to get that close.

Maybe I'll be an arse and start closer to the front next time.

Really did feel better for the run and pleased we didn't miss it like we did last week.
