OK to #1, but couldn't physically get to 2. I got sucked down to the path and was then scrapping back to it. Had a mad moment on the way to 5 when I thought I had made a 180 deg error as I looked at the map and the writing was upside down. The course (Blue women) wasn't written with the words upright in line with North. This totally threw me (it doesn't take much!). Stopped for ages fathoming out if I had gone wildly out or not...I hadn't, grr. Folded the wording over and picked things up after that. Made another error nearer the end where I misread the contours. But apart from that no more. Lost a good 8 mins I think. Not good. Felt better running than I have done for a while. No original foot pain. Blisters still there but were industrially taped and ankle not too puffy before, during or after. After having my hair yanked in the green to 2 I thought I might give up, but I enjoyed it in the end. Unlike Sher thought it was nicely planned given the area. I did concur with her on the pits though. A bit of a shock going from Portugal to the SE!

Note
(rest day)

I'm broken! I have very bad blisters from my new shoes (Icebugs!) and although the pain in my foot has gone, my ankle is pretty puffy. It's probably as a result of all the wall and stone jumping. I'm not complaining. That's my fourth POM in a row and I'll be back for more! I was consistently slow, but none of the major disasters that I've had in previous years.

shoes: Icebugs

The first 2 controls were good fun and I was thinking about how enjoyable the course would be but then, bam, I went wrong on 3 which was an easy short leg and then veered right on 4 in some marshy stuff. The combo of this and crossing the "watercourse" in Sheralee terms, meant my feet got wet, Compeeds slipped and I was in agony. The long leg to 8 was torture and then the uphill slog to 9 was just me walking like an invalid. Shame really as I wanted to run it. Maybe I wouldn't have been as accurate but I wasn't having issues with placing the map to the ground. A great area and a nice sunny day to finish off on.
