Running 50:00 [3] 10.3 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #2

went out to wallaroo to run last weeks long red. didn't want to drive my mums car in though so parked at Italia rd and ran in and back from there. probably should have driven in after all

Orienteering 49:25 [5] *** 7.65 km (6:28 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #2

Ok, so went out with an aim of 45 mins for the course and to work extra hard, maybe try and push my nav a bit quicker too. Hesitant to 1 as was looking for the feature and then was super stoked to find the controls were still out! was too high to 2 and hesitated a bit more. nailed 3 and picked up the speed to 4. which is where it all came undone.
looking at my gps i crossed the main creek way earlier then i thought and this resulted in me looking for the gully too early. pulled up at a car wreck but i'd just drawn the course on an older map so it wasn't marked. if i had the updated map everything would have made sense straight away from here. anyway. kept going along the hill but was too high, stopping alot and at this point hoping to find the creek near 5 and possibly 5 as well to relocate (which is what happened). would have lost 3 - 4 mins here. tried to stop and refocus once i got 5 because it was training and not a race (although i did want to beat robs time). a lot slower through the next controls and got them a lot better, trying to regain some confidence. few small hesitations still though. got through to 12 ok and then drifted too far left to 13, which made me lose contact a bit and was hesitating a lot as everything seemed to look like the small clearing i was aiming for. next 3 controls were rubbish, was pulling up short and not trusting myself or focusing enough. good through 17 and 18 but was fairly tired even though i'd slowed down a lot.

anyway a few things to think about after this which is good. disappointed though because 45 mins was definitely not out of the question had i been cleaner.

massive thanks to Denis for the course, and also leaving the controls and water out there too, it was amazing! so grateful

Cycling 23:00 [3] 9.6 km (25.0 kph)

ride from uni to blue gum hills. took it easy

Orienteering race 22:24 [5] ** 4.77 km (4:42 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #2

Park o Final at Blue Gum Hills. Nice course from Greg Bacon, was trickier than the qualifiers that i got to attend. also had some bush route choice. cut up the watercourse and off the road to 4 but came off a little early and was slow. then from 7 to 8 i got stuck in lantana on the side of a mega steep watercourse, so that was slow too. hit a dead end in the maze but that didn't cost too much time. took the track to 12 and was slow up the embankment thingy when the straight line bush option was much faster this time. missed 13 and lost probably 20 - 30 secs looking for it. pushed super hard for the rest out of frustration, but wasn't feeling very good from having wedges for lunch. managed to scrape the win but was annoyed with my technical performance

Cycling 20:00 [3] 10.0 km (30.0 kph)

was smashing it home after when i got a flat on weakleys drive right where they were closing half the road for roadworks. was struggling to fix the flat and the project manager on the site was parked nearby offering me a lift down the road, i think he wanted me off his site :P it was dark and i wanted to get home so got a lift to thornton and got picked up from there

Running intervals 35:00 [4] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Nike Lunar Eclipse+ (blue)

sprints at the oval. felt slow on the warm up and slow in the ints. chose not to wear my talons as my feet hurt a little in the arches yesterday. but it meant i was slipping on every u turn and my times were slower. only did 2 sets, stacked it on the 1st int of the 3rd set and had had enough. plus want to do well tomorrow

Orienteering race 1:23:21 [5] *** 13.0 km (6:25 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x talon 212 #2

Mass start hagaby. Had the long split first and short split second. Was middle of the pack on the first loop but found myself on the back of a pretty gun group after a while. Was paying too much attention to others though and got suckered to the wrong split control and lost the pack coming to the first map change. Managed to catch up a bit on the second loop but wasn't navigating fast enough to keep up. So lost the lead pack again and then lost time on 2 controls. Was running by myself until Will Hawkins caught me at the 2nd map change. We were running together and then Ian and Brodie caught us. The rest of the race was pretty much a 4 way battle between us until the 3rd last control where I dropped off the back, unable to match the pace increase. Ended up 4th in the juniors and 11th in the seniors which was surprising. Pretty pleased, but still room for improvement technically and physically before Easter. Good weekend all up :)
