Day 2 on Cockatoo Island. Very cool area and map. Started well, was being a little cautious and trying to plan ahead. A few hesitations on 6-7-8 through me a little and didn't get to really plan to 10. Had a look at it and realised I had to go up, but didn't see the stairs just behind the control. Ended up above it, reckon I would have lost a good 20 secs at least on this leg. Ok for the rest but felt slow navigating. Ended up 12th. 14 mins would have been good. Throat really sore today but nothing coming from it yet.

Xmas 5 days Day 1 at Georges Heights. Was a bit tight getting there, finished work at 2:30 and started at 4:45. Made my start with 3 mins to spare. Started ok but took the straight line option to #3 and lost some time in the green. A couple of other smallish mistakes throughout and probably the slower route to 21. Was really slow though the last loop. Finished 9th, probably around a minute slower than I would have liked. Had a bit of a sore throat as well.

Watch suggested 3 days recovery time afterwards haha

Orienteering race 30:00 [5] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

Big Foot Sprints. Bad routes to 6 and 14 in the first course meant I finished 4th, 11 secs behind Josh, 5 secs behind Andy. 2nd race was pretty much the 3 of us battling it out for the minor placings. Got a nice tow early on and was able to hold them off at the end, for 2nd overall behind Christian. Good racing and good fun.

Made the trip down to Mosman for the Sydney Summer Series event. Bit of a different format to what I'm used to, with a highly detailed map, SI and the ability to fully plan your course before your start. Started out ok, trying to get used to the detail of the foreshore paths. A lot more physical with lots of stairs and changes in direction. Lost some time at 23, not seeing the blown up map portion and trying to interpret what was on the normal map. Overran the next control (14) badly, not realising it was off the track a bit. Then stuffed around at 13 because I misread my map and thought I was at 16. Ended up over running 16 anyway!! Improved a lot when I got into the streets more, but again lost time at 29, mostly because my map had disintegrated a bit and I didn't realise it was up a level. Got all the controls but was 1:03 over so ended up on 580. A bit frustrating to be the 3 seconds over but really I should have been comfortably under 45mins without all the mistakes!! Reckon I lost a good 3 mins all up. Just couldn't handle actually having to navigate :P
