Orienteering (Cookworthy) 1:04:22 [4] *** 4.8 km (13:25 / km) +105m 12:05 / km
17c shoes: Womens Highlander - Montrail

Start 1:28... disastrously muddy!!

In some ways, a really disappointing race :(
My orienteering left a lot to be desired!

c1 - good (3rd)*
c2 - good (2nd)
c3 - rc error (2nd)
c4 - wet - muddy map (2nd)
c5 - s-l-o-w, worried about going wrong, did go wrong and ended up too low (10th!!)
c6 - good (3rd)
c7 - good but horribly slippery (2nd)
c8 - rc error (6th)
c9 - massive disaster! Thought I'd gone too far, ran back, to realise I hadn't gone far enough, to run back to where i was, to actually overrun it!! :O AGHHH! (11th)
c10 - fine (2nd)
c11 - fell over (6th)
c12 - fine (4th)
c13 - fine (2th)
c14 - overrun badly :( (12th)
c15 - fine but slow (5th)
c16 - fine (3rd)
c17 - fine (1st)
c18 - fine (1st)

*Brackets = position on leg
Found the scale difficult as it was my first time on a 1:15000
Couple of BIG mistakes, good on other bits...

Event: JK 2010

12 PM

Orienteering (Sprint) 22:29 [4] *** 2.8 km (8:02 / km) +40m 7:30 / km
20c shoes: Womens Highlander - Montrail

JK - Bicton College
Didn't feel physically great after not much sleep, car journey and knowing I hadn't had the 'best' prep... BUT was still very happy to be there around the whole orienteering crowd again :)
Raining slightly as I set off... slightly too high for number 1, good start ;)
c2 - slow but fine
c3 - same
c4 - changed routes after I went through the gate, lost 30s
c5 - unsure and slow, another 25/20s lost
c6 - as above!!
c7 - slow but accurate
c8 - fine
c9 - slow but fine
c10 - bad route choice and slightly confuzled
c11 - parallel error with one of the buildings, not concentrating properly - biggest mistake :(
c12 - good
c13 - spiked :D (yeh great... few more of these would be good!!)
c14 - good
c15 - slow, but fine
c16 - fine
c17 - v slow exit from 16 cos lost all sense of direction
c18 - fine
c19 - fine
c20 - fine
finish - fastest time of 3 seconds to finish =) No orienteering involved :D

Overall reasonably happy with positioning considering the number of mistakes made, on the other hand, frustrating to have made em! To be expected considering very limited orienteering AND running recently.

7 AM

Run/jog (with Dad) 28:30 [2] 4.6 km (6:12 / km) +205m 5:04 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 10

Run with dad, quicker pace that him thou as I left him on the hills and on the way back :)

Nice gentle loosener before the JK... (worried!!!)

Think my lack of recent orienteering (or ever really) will definitely snow :S
9 AM

Walk 40:00 [0] 4.1 km (9:45 / km) +96m 8:44 / km

Up to catch the 'Stagecoach' bus from Eccy road so as not to have to pay the extortionate 'First' bus prices!
