Orienteering 28:54 [3] 2.1 km (13:46 / km)

Testing course B for next Sat. A few booms, tried some different routes, moved a few flags a bit. AOWN moment: Came face to face with a juvenile crow sitting on a branch. Got quite close. It appeared to have a bad wing, although I didn't stick around long enough to confirm. Anyway, he was sitting tight enough I believe I could have touched him, although I'm not that enamored of the idea of touching crows, so I let it go at that.

Orienteering 29:27 [3] 2.3 km (12:48 / km)

Test run on course A, some different routes. Difficult going in some pretty thick woods.

Note

AOWN report: had a little rogaine practice with my friend Tom, who was leading a field trip earlier in the day and was attacked by a ruffed grouse. The crafty Tom caught it with his bare hands. Story has a happy ending, as Tom practices catch-and-release, and the grouse apparently learned something from the experience and quit buzzing the kids.

Orienteering 34:00 [3] 2.1 km (16:11 / km)

Testing course B, hanging some streamers, etc. Pretty wet, as it was shortly after the thunderstorms. Found two sets of mylar party balloons, a very old shovel whose handle had rotted out, a plastic eckerd's bag, and control #246, apparently still on duty from last year's meet.

Orienteering 29:00 [3] 2.3 km (12:37 / km)
weight:168lbs

Test driving course A - a little faster and better running than course B.

Orienteering race 24:23 [3] *** 2.5 km (9:45 / km)
spiked:8/10c weight:170lbs

Sprint A at Crandalls. Fine running in shorts! Excellent terrain, and a reasonable effort.

Orienteering race 28:08 [3] *** 2.6 km (10:49 / km)
spiked:7/8c

Sprint B Crandalls. Another fine course by Clint.

Orienteering race 1:01:55 [3] *** 4.4 km (14:04 / km)
spiked:11/14c

Green course. Upper terrain not used for the sprint was some of the nicest terrain I've been in. Not 100% field checked yet, but certainly adequate for navigation and very nice running with lots of detail. I was really tired starting out, and did a few dumb things.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1]

Wandering around in my woods checking out JJ's map updates and course planning. I really need to import some laurel weevils.
