Note
weight:164.5lbs

First g under 165 in about a year and a half, but it won't necessarily last.

Went to a chainsaw workshop up in Petersham MA today. Very educational, but also pretty tiring. No training seems feasible with what's left of today.

Running 1:19:48 [3] 8.65 mi (9:14 / mi)
weight:166lbs

Pleasant Valley, up E River Rd and back W River Rd. Started out with Kathleen and Rhonda, but they disappeared fast and finished about 10 minutes ahead. This was pretty hard for me, and I will feel it in the groin, R quad and back, and maybe some other places.

Note

Some fine laurel wrangling with the boys, and now about 2/3 done with the main path, I think. I did stumble into a bee's nest and got two rather painful stings, left ankle and R knee. AOWN. Enough FDFs today that a blue hat would have been a good idea, and I now have the raw materials, but I was not prepared, so just took it from them. They don't really bother me that much, but when they were buzzing around my head I was a little concerned they might be bees, since I had fresh evidence that there were bees in the area. Meanwhile, we had a visit from Rhonda while we were at work, and she arrived with Hazel from an unexpected direction - right through the laurel. Pretty impressive, and in sandals, too.

A couple of hours of laurel wrangling with my assistants. We are now past halfway on the new trail. Had an equipment failure - one of my brand new loppers suffered a broken handle, which was pretty annoying, but the nice lady at Fiskars is sending me a replacement. I wasn't even really leaning on it.

Then some rogaine practice with Zack which went pretty well for me, although he wasn't as amused. Hit what I'm pretty sure is the only 300 yd drive I've ever had, and had 7 pars to go with two clunkers.

Running 27:58 [3] 2.8 mi (9:59 / mi)
weight:168lbs

Art Sweeton loop, without the side trip, and without Hazel - still too hot and muggy for a big furry critter like her.

Running 30:13 [3] 3.0 mi (10:04 / mi)
weight:166.5lbs

Same as yesterday, except I left Hazel home. She seemed to get too hot yesterday. So I saved two minutes of stopping to retrieve her at various spots she had found interesting. This is a pretty good run for the dog days. Short enough and shaded enough (and slow enough) that I don't get too tired and don't get sore. Friendly deer flies were out and about. I got my hands on a tub of tree tanglefoot, but in these rural parts sissified stuff like blue duct tape is hard to come by, so I haven't rigged a defense system yet. On the other hand, this is mostly an academic inquiry for me, as the FDFs are the least of my problems. They move slowly enough that I just whack them as they alight.Old, gimpy and slow are much more annoying conditions than being FDF bait for me, although I assume blue duct tape won't do much for those problems.

g not too bad after last night's dietary indiscretions.

Running 32:07 [3] 3.0 mi (10:42 / mi)
weight:166lbs

Art Sweeton loop with a detour to examine an intermittent trail in the process of being reclaimed. The thickest part of it has been mowed - the rest will need some modest laurel wrangling, and it will hook up with the new trail being cut across the green hill with the help of my assistant laurel wranglers. Got two new loppers today, so each of us will have one of the powerful 2" cut models. Hazel came along and found it quite hot. She repaired to the basement with a nice cold bowl of water when we returned.

cycling 1:02:00 [3] 15.8 mi (3:55 / mi)

Part of a generally productive day. Started with an hour and a half of prime laurel wrangling in the am, then golf exercises in the gym, and 5 pullups in the old barn, then a little rogaine practice in Simsbury - not as spiffy as a few days ago, but still pretty darn good. Then this bike ride - from home to PV and Riverton and back to Stanclift cove. Then hanging around at Stanclift Cove for Axel Tanner's birthday - with a little swimming and kayaking thrown in.
