An hour and 20 minutes weeding in the vegetable garden.

Kayak (Pedal kayak) 47:14 intensity: (41:00 @0) + (2:50 @1) + (1:18 @2) + (1:39 @3) + (27 @4) 2.58 mi (18:18 / mi) +3m 18:14 / mi

Thought we were going to Stanclift Cove, but it was inexplicably closed, after being open yesterday. Although I have a theory. They said it was only going to be open to local residents, which is against CT law. So maybe they got shut down for that.

Anyway, we went to try out Winchester Lake instead. Nice place, not many people there, quite undeveloped. However, a lot of just submerged rocks and snags, and we banged the foot paddles on one and bent them a bit. So if I go back it will be with conventional kayak paddles.

Note

Zack found this guy in the basement and vacuumed him up with a dustbuster.

He was then humanely released, more or less, in the yard.

The verdict according to my friend Jay is that he is a dark fishing spider. Large and a little scary looking but relatively harmless. Or perhaps, given the size, I should say she. Females are twice the size of males in the fishing spider game.

Running 18:42 intensity: (1:06 @1) + (5:54 @2) + (10:49 @3) + (53 @4) 1.26 mi (14:50 / mi) +28m 13:53 / mi
ahr:130 max:155 shoes: 2020 White Gel Kayanos

No trouble with the achilles per se, but the outside of the calf is quite inflamed.

With Rhonda and Karen. Glen was running. I may try later, but not at his pace.
10 AM

Note

Bunch of yard work today, grass cutting, power washing the mowers, weeding in the garden.
3 PM

Running 19:16 intensity: (7 @0) + (8 @1) + (4:21 @2) + (10:15 @3) + (4:19 @4) + (6 @5) 1.25 mi (15:25 / mi) +28m 14:24 / mi

This was a test to see how the achilles is doing. I had first tweaked it toward the end of the Billygoat about a month ago, but then it calmed down after a couple of days. Did it again Monday at Huntington and it was quite a bit sorer. Not ready for o yet, but it was fine at this very slow pace.

Out with Rhonda. A little damp in the woods, but looks like it will be heating up soon.
4 PM

Note

I had run the brush mower over the trail to the little pond, and also about 3/4 of the way around it. Nice, because things were about 18” high. Anyway, I took Rhonda for a little excursion to show it off, and from the back of the pond I could see the hillside across where Zack and I cut out a lot of laurel in the winter and it looked like it wouldn’t be too hard to get there. A little adventure. Anyway, off we went through the marsh, being careful where I stepped. Rhonda Made a little exclamation from behind and I looked around to see her with one leg in a hole, all the way up to the top. She scrambled out, none the worse for wear, but maybe we won’t walk through there again, or at least not until we forget what happened.

Huntington SP Green course. A pretty good outing for me. Mostly in good contact. I knew Phil and Dave had done about 1:24, and that seemed like a reasonable goal, but I was getting tired toward the end and then missed 13 high and had to look a bit. Tweaked my right Achilles early, maybe on the way to 2, but it didn’t start to really bug me until leg 10. A couple of small bobbles at 5, 6 and 7, all quickly corrected. Then leaving 9 I kept trying to go SW, but the terrain kept pushing me S, and then I climbed over all those ridge lines, in fine contact, but just physically difficult and slow. Good to 11 and 12 and thought I had 1:24 easily, but the Achilles was complaining enough that I took the trail around to 13, and once on the hill I saw what appeared to be a cliff and ran to it - no flag, looked around a bit and spotted it lower down. By then I had to hustle to get as close as I did. But a good outing, icing the Achilles when I got home.
