Mountain biking 1:00:00 [2] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Given that the Middlesex Fells is one of the most awesome mountain biking venues in eastern Massachusetts, I brought along my MTB to do a bit of riding after the A meet. No HR data; trails are indeed challenging.

I would love to direct a MTB-O event at the Fells. Anybody out there ride ?

Road running 45:48 [1] 4.5 mi (10:11 / mi)
ahr:140 max:162 shoes: BA7

Work to the top of Noname Hill by the most direct paved route. My legs are pretty tired from the last two days of tough runs. There was little joy in today's run, except for being out in shorts weather.

Now that spring is here, the construction (incursion) has commenced with (as JFK said) renewed vigor. The grading is further along. I noticed two things that surprised me. One is that the erosion fences have failed at the foot of an extremely steep newly-built roadside, where they were attempting to prevent sand from washing into wetlands. Hmph. I found the other when I ran to the end of the stripped, developed area, into the woods beyond, and looked for my traditional turnaround spot. It's gone. They've extended the stripping fully past the top of the hill, so that the trail, where I eventually found it, is already sloping down.

After turning around for work, I noticed a ladder propped up against a bare tree, and elsewhere, a pine tree that was uprooted, partially tipped over. The thought came to mind how the Whos house looked after the Grinch took absolutely everything off the walls and from the fireplace, leaving only bare plaster. I sure hope the economy turns around soon. It would really suck to build a dozen McMansions and have them sit empty. :-{ P

Road running 1:07:13 [2] 7.5 mi (8:58 / mi)
ahr:150 max:172 shoes: BA8

Simpson loop, modified, with P. Brisk pace. We chopped part off of Simpson road so we could add 1 trip up and down a steep road he knew about. Phew. Tough effort.

Note

Volunteering stint for the BAA in Hopkinton. Boy, do we run an efficient start area. We managed to bag the clothes and the trash so that the wave 2 runners could enjoy a clean starting area. When the 2nd wave left, we had that area cleaned and the barricades down in a hurry. I managed to leave the town earlier than ever before. I beat the baggage busses to the Mass Pike plaza, but a state trooper held up plaza traffic so the convoy of 27 or so busses could stay connected through the plaza and all get going on the Mass Pike together.

I got to my favorite viewing spot, mile 11.7, in Natick, in time to see some of the later wave 1 runners coming by (about 1:35-1:40 for their race time), well in advance of wave 2 runners (1:05 their race time).

Nevertheless, I only managed to spot a couple of people from my running club. :-(
