Orienteering race 3:42:00 [3] **** 15.8 km (14:03 / km)
max:164 shoes: Falcon

Thanks to the organizers for printing the maps at 1:10. These old eyes would have been even less happy trying to make sense of a denser map.

Good energy for most of the race. Took 2 Gus, had cramping problems only in the last 30-45 minutes. Fell off the back of the Tori-Corinne group on the trail run to 8; then I got mislocated going to 10 and slowed way down. One leg in there (13?) was a nightmare that made me almost want to throw in the towel. There was a major gravel road not shown on the map, which confused me as I was trying to relocate. I finally was successful coming down the power line. I can't wait to see the Quickroute track+map to see where the @#$@ I was.

After that, the controls were not exactly straightforward, but I executed simple plans OK. Also had a few other people in sight for some of it.

Skipped #6, hoping to bridge up and navigate with faster folks; this tactic failed. Chose 19b for simpler (trail-based) execution.

Mountain biking 1:00:00 [1] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Afternoon biking and some hiking to vet more Prospect controls. Wouldn't you know it, the parks people are marking some trees near roadways to be trimmed or removed, and they're using the same color of flagging tape that the course setter is?
