Orienteering race 3:42:00 [3] **** 15.8 km (14:03 / km)
max:164 shoes: Falcon
Thanks to the organizers for printing the maps at 1:10. These old eyes would have been even less happy trying to make sense of a denser map.
Good energy for most of the race. Took 2 Gus, had cramping problems only in the last 30-45 minutes. Fell off the back of the Tori-Corinne group on the trail run to 8; then I got mislocated going to 10 and slowed way down. One leg in there (13?) was a nightmare that made me almost want to throw in the towel. There was a major gravel road not shown on the map, which confused me as I was trying to relocate. I finally was successful coming down the power line. I can't wait to see the Quickroute track+map to see where the @#$@ I was.
After that, the controls were not exactly straightforward, but I executed simple plans OK. Also had a few other people in sight for some of it.
Skipped #6, hoping to bridge up and navigate with faster folks; this tactic failed. Chose 19b for simpler (trail-based) execution.
